The reaction I get when folks walk into my game room is often priceless.

Recently we went on vacation and one of my wife's co-workers came by while we were gone to feed our cat. She later incredulously asked my wife--"What are those? Puzzles of some kind?" When my wife told her they were board games, I think comprehension decreased even more.

My cousin's wife just stood slack-jawed in front of the bookcases, as though she's just read the second act of The King in Yellow.

The first time my mother-in-law saw my games room, she actually laughed out loud, then asked my wife, "What does he do with them all?" To which Sylvie helpfully replied, "We play them." It was one of those awkward worlds-apart moments. I'm pretty sure she still thinks I'm caught in some kind of child vortex, but then she's a Mary Kay Cosmetics regional sales rep, so I've had a few laughs at her expense too. I think we're even.

There comes a point where taste must take a back seat to lifestyle. At least that's what I tell myself when I'm in the living room.

I can only assume you're referring to your choice to wear blue socks.

Expect a summons, Ken. You must answer for your crimes in revealing our great hobby to a muggle.

I'm tired of the phrase "90% of everything is crap" being used as a defense of crap.

So if you have 100% awesome. How do you rank the awesome? And at what point does lesser awesome become crap in relation to greater awesome?

Only the top 10% of that is awesome. Everything else is just less awesome.

Heroscape is pretty damn ugly. But my goodness does it play well.

Hero scape looks and plays pulpy.
