For non-party I would highly recommend Incan Gold. Such a gem of a game.

In the party space, I would go Codenames, Wits & Wagers, or even the new Dead Last (Smirk & Dagger).

I love Incan Gold. It handles large groups well because it doesn't really have turns as such, so it never bogs down in its flow.

Jeff, you really should try Codenames, and it looks like you will. I've been playing games for a while, and I've never seen one that has been as big a hit with non-gamers as Codenames. It helps that it's a good game of course.

What is better for casual players....Codenames or The Resistence?

Both games handle newbies well, but Codenames is more intuitive for non-gamers. It usually takes a game or two for non-gamers to "get" The Resistance. Casual gamers should have no trouble with either title.
They both really shine with repeat players though, where patterns and dynamics between the players start to surface.

Codenames has been more of an appetizer for us. Usually people want to play 3 or 4 games and are ready for something else. We've had entire game nights where we've played nothing but The Resistance though. That probably says more about the people we game with than the games. Really it depends on what kind of deduction you're looking for. Family and non-gamer friendly wordplay and association, or subterfuge and broken promises?
