Kindle Fire 7

I got one of these on black Friday for $37.

Ok, so I'm new to the tablet scene and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for must have nerd apps, games, etc. There are only like 3 boardgames available - Small World, which I don't think my screen is big enough to handle. Ingenious, which is about as fun as blogging about your stool samples. Elder Sign, which I really want but am afraid the screen might be too small.

Also, I was really shocked at the price of digital books.

Ebook prices have been a bone of contention between Amazon and publishers. Amazon used to have lots of new best sellers around $10. I think the price has gone up to closer to $12, $13, and up, and the price is often set by the publishers themselves as part of the agreements they worked out with Amazon. Beyond that, the actual cost of a book has surprisingly little to do with the physical acts of printing, binding, and shipping.

Elder Sign Omens will work fine on a screen that size.

If you're not afraid of getting techy with it you can install (sideload) the Google Play Store and get access to a lot more stuff. Just note that there's no integration between the Amazon AppStore and the Google Play Store; a game you buy on one won't be paid for on the other.

There are also apps that'll help you find free or discounted books, like this one .

Summoner Wars is on Kindle.

Watch for sales on books. My last three purchases were $2 apiece. Also check your library system, as many do ebooks now too. Maryland is excellent for it.

And some books can be leant out. I'll have a look if you let me know what you're interested in.

I just bought a Conan collection for .99c right after posting. That ought to last me a while. I used to be able to read for hours at a time but nowadays it's like 35 minutes then zzzz......

I don't have any experience with other tablets but this Kindle is pretty damn spiffy for the price. I wonder if this will drive the prices down on other tablets?
