Ok, got a chance to see this over the weekend, and I was wondering what others thought of it?

Myself, I "liked" it. I did think the storyline was a little open ended, and plot holes for days. After seeing it my fiancee' noted how this should have been a TV series, as it felt like Pilot. I was thinking almost the exact same thing. I do dig the story idea, and the background would have been cool. But alas, they "jumped" straight into the climax, and kept it there until it was suddenly over. I think I missed the first half hour and the last? Maybe in the DVD.

From the trailer it looks like they've added other Jumpers, the ability to jump much larger objects, a war between different Jumper 'factions', and the idiotic harpoon concept. Just from that I can confidently say the book was far superior. I'm cringing already, but will probably watch a torrent, telling myself it can't possibly be as bad as I expect, find out it is, and regret wasting the time.
I'm hoping I'm wrong and that it is a good film, but...

You went and saw this?
Wow, it looked like absolute unredeeming shit from the trailer. Where was the appeal?

Upcomming films that look good:
Rambo
Prince Caspian
Dark Knight
Speed Racer looks fucking bizzare but has me interested, despite hating the toon
Watchmen
Heaps of other that I can't think of.

Indy looks nothing - trailer way to dependant on nostalgia to be able to judge. I don't think it will be able to recapture the magic, I sense star war prequels with that one.
10000 BC, despite having battlecats brother, looks like amature wankfest.
Jumper looks shit. Interesting premise but the direction and acting look fucking abismal.
Not much else I can think of that looks terrible.

I actually like the majority of movies, believe it or not.

Not just a book, but one of the top 100 most banned books in the US .

I thought the first one was quite good. Missing that *something* but above average none the less. Enjoyed it more than most Potter flicks.
Was also way less over done than LOTR which is a bonus.

Jesus lion rocks. They better do the fucking last battle, thats all im waiting for.

Steven Gould, Jumper, Tor, 1992. He also wrote Wildside in 1996, about a parallel world. Both are excellent.

I guess "banned" reads better than "most frequently challenged"? I've been wracking my brain as to what possible objection there could be to Jumper. The American Library Association website doesn't appear to give the reasons. The only thing I could come up with is maybe he was confused with Stephen Jay Gould, the evolutionary biologist.

I "think" it has to do with the fact that he is portrayed as hero, yet has total disregard for the law. Robbing banks, taking what he wants. Maybe they though that sent a bad message for the children?

Or some shit like that.

I saw it tonight but I admit I was mainly interested because parts of it were filmed near here (Ann Arbor). It wasn't too bad of a movie but I wish they went a little more into explaining how they could do that stuff.

It's been a while since I read the book, but I'd hardly peg him as hero. You're probably right regarding the reason, in which case Lord of the Rings is in trouble: Hobbits stealing vegetables!
