The Mob Rules

The new game store opened today, I was about 150th in line out of 250 for a 3000 square foot store and they let every last one of us in at opening time! I walked in and saw the owner who I've known for years at the register and I asked him, "Anyone bought anything yet?" When he said no I grabbed a box off of the counter put it in front of him and said, "First customer!" Turns out it was Cheaty Mages which all in all is like a lucky pull. I've heard people mention they like it.





I'm the guy in red. The guy in yellow is the store owner, a seriously energetic guy, extra pumped by the likely $50,000 day he's about to have.

Cheek to jowl, the place was packed when we wrestled ourselves out of the horde 40 minutes after opening. The check-out line was 20 people deep when we were in it. Average bill seemed to be about $100 apiece.




The photo doesn't convey how tight the space was. We spent a serious amount of time just standing in one spot because no one was moving enough to let you out. This is what happens when the closest game store is more than 20 miles away, and a qualified individual breaks the drought. Anyone that thinks the local game store is dead isn't paying attention to the places that do it right.

But there was a crisis -- no Space Cadets Away Missions. When I got to the register I mentioned to him that he was missing a good title and his answer straight back -- "let me know anything I'm missing and I'll have it on the shelf before next weekend." So there should be a SCAM or two in the store soon enough.
