So much effect for so little effort (not that skeletons are so hard to do anyway).
Trickiest are the Arkhan and Morghast figures, which are bones borne aloft on ghost skulls. Gave them the oxide wash, painted the bones black, picked them out with screaming skull.
Otherwise, oxide, a little wayfarer green, done. Love it.

Also, that skeleton carrying a skeleton banner is so fucking awesomely stupid. I love it.

Which now? Just about the only people who see these are me, my wife, you all, and a couple of friends. My local stores are friendly enough, but their organized play is not super inviting, when it exists st all.

I can understand not wanting to get into the organized play thing.
However, the way this current worldwide campaign is structured...one can take part via painting...without even playing a game. This is neat for a hobby that also recognizes the, painting and modelling side. I think if you just take some newly painted models down to a local, and tell them which faction you're fighting for, the store will assign that side points.

Prior to that though I was finishing up a squad of Plaguebearers. Going in I foolishly thought that these would be easy, but then the guts, pus boils, horns, teeth, rotten head-grenades...These all required a different process. But now I just need to work on the bases. (Excuse my impromptu "white" background and camera flash for lighting)

I keep thinking I ought to try and improve my technique. A particular point of inspiration was the photos of models in Frostgrave, which are just astounding. But after watching a couple of tutorials, I don't think I'd have the patience for it, even if I did learn the skill

To be honest the biggest game changer for me hasn't been two thin coats or layers (both of which I do though because the results are better) but getting a good piece of headgear. For Christmas I received a $15 headset with five lenses of different magnification power and a light. My eyesight hasn't been immune to getting older so being able to see the details, see the brush tip and have the area lighted has been revolutionary for me.
