What KICKSTARTER(S) are you BACKING and WHY?

Kickstarter novice here.

Has anyone looked at Zombicide ? I'm intrigued by what I've seen so far and amazed by the amount of backers. On the other hand I'm also puzzled by the amount of backers, considering the lack of a rule book and the amount of money you have to invest to get the best deal -> for me, for example, it would be 100 $ backing + 25 $ intl. shipping + VAT 21%. So around 150 $ for a game with awesome artwork and miniatures, but no idea whether it is any good? Is this normal for a Kickstarter game?

Seems to be getting that way. I planned on looking at Zombicide nearer the time. But at that price it's unlikely I'll bite, especially if there's less than average information. Ogre's not much more than that and I'm wondering if it'll get played enough to justify such a huge price.

And I imagine FFG watching and eagerly anticipating being able to up their prices to $150 for anything with some plastic in...

Funny, I just pulled the trigger on Zombicide because DAMN it looks good in the gameplay video. Minis are great too and I'm excited.

My first dive into Kickstarter. Gulp.

I think it makes more sense for you, because you live in the US and for 100$ you get a lot of nice stuff, even if you may not be 100% sure that the game is any good. But for those outside the US the 50$ on top (through shipping and - most likely - taxes) are a steep price increase, I think. I mean, 150$ for a game? I still have trouble getting used to the 100$ prices.

General question I have is, are kickstarter games also coming into general distribution at some point, or it's only through kickstarter and then it's gone forever (or if they start another kickstarter campaign)?

Schlupp,

While you can never tell I guess with kickstarter companies, this one seems to be slated for general distribution of some sort because they mention at the $75 level that the MSRP will be $89.

So in theory, you could get the game for $125 (the $75 pledge level) with shipping and still get the 2 extra promo figures that I'm assuming won't be with the retail game. Maybe they will - who knows.

But if you can convince yourself to do that, then it does become a question of "well for $25 more, I can get ALL THIS OTHER STUFF."

Well holy crap. All I've have to do is refresh the Zombicide page and he makes a grand.

Past $450,000 at this point. I suspect he'll top half a million dollars by Sunday.

Half. Million. Dollars.

Damn.

I backed D-day Dice and Ogre. The former has a good record so far and seemed cool but is already a few months late. Kinda sucks to drop money on a game and not get it for months. Ogre just looks like LOT of stuff, but it also has a 5 month or more delta between payment and shipping. I passed on gunship, SMERSH, and Zombicide because I just couldn't devote the money to unknowns. Hopefully they get printed with enough copies to push to retail.

I've met Richard Lanius several times and really like his game philosophy, so I'm tempted to jump on DoR:Battlefields, but again, I think that will be a retail product so using kickstarter just as a pre-order system doesnt sit right with me. At least GMTs P500 system only charges when the product ships.

Ogre and the Bulge game for iPad. I haven't been that tempted by anything else (although I saw a couple of others that I liked, but had already closed).

I got back to Zombicide this morning; wow, has it added a lot of stretch goals. So I pledged: Abomination + extra boards + white dice + the four optional figures, i.e. everything. What convinced me? Quick play with the focus on fighting and because it looks to be a game system/toolbox.

And I expect someone will come up with rules for using the figures in LNOE (and maybe the boards too).

Zombicide doesn't have rules released. Why the fuck are people ordering it?

To be fair, they have been demoing this game at Cons, such as Adeptacon and people are talking about how awesome it is. D6Generation was talking it up in the latest podcast.

For a lot of us, this is how we bought all of our games for 25-plus years, if not longer.

I'm sure you still also use your rotary dial after referring to the phone book.

Point missed. But a spirited try.

Here's the actual point: posted rulebooks are a luxury, not a requirement.

So were cellphones, now they're often the only phone line people have.

If you can rapidly disseminate the rules to allow the people dropping $100+ to know what the hell they're buying, you should. It's like the assholes that require you to fax a form.
