Celebrating My Wedding Anniversary

We are going to Lowes and Home Depot to pick up the kitchen floor tile I special ordered, some quarter round, three feet worth of trim, and a few other odds and ends that we need to continue with our kitchen/pantry project. Afterwards, we are going out for Thai food, then coming home and doing a little light carpentry work and maybe some painting.

This is a fitting way to celebrate, since when we got married I registered at Home Depot (they do have a wedding gift registry). Only a couple of brave souls actually gave us gifts off it though. My mother-in-law was appalled, and made me go register at Macy's as well. For my first wedding anniversary, I got a miter saw. For my 5th I got a wet saw.

If all goes well, we may throw in a little bonus celebration, and go to the new Planet of the Apes movie tomorrow while we wait for the paint to dry.

cool -- I am getting ready to get a miter saw for installing all of our own hardwood flooring....hope that goes well....

thought about getting a wet saw and retiling our shower, but decided to have a professional do that one. My confidence begins to erode when there is a high probability for leaks if it doesn't work perfectly.

Oh, and congratulations!

Happy anniversary Uba!

Make sure the Spawn is out of the house when you and Al are caulking in the kitchen.

Congrats Uba! When my wife and I got our first place together my aunt bought us a Craftsman ratchet set. One of the most useful gifts we've ever received.

@SpaceGhost -- Seriously, have the pros do it. Are you going to hot tar and so forth too? That's not amateur hour by any means.

@Uba -- Sounds like a great time. Hadar and I had our 11th anniversary last Sunday. We keep kosher, so going to a restaurant is a big deal for us. We dropped off the kids at my inlaws, went out to breakfast (suuuucked, but hey, at least we didn't have to clean the dishes). Followed that with a trip to Hollywood Blvd for Cirque du Soleil. (An aside: anyone ever visiting LA? Do not go to Hollywood Blvd, it's just a street. There are no movies made there or anything--it's not magical. It's a mob of tourists all looking for something to do.) Cirque was pretty amazing--those performers are insane. Followed that with chineeeeeese foooooood. Nom nom nom. Um nommy nom nommle nom nom. Then caught the last HARRY POTTER movie (better than 7a!). This is the best part--slept until EIGHT O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING. Not having a herd of youngins assail us at 6AM really makes a difference in re: sleep. Who knew?

Strangely enough, Uba's husband just mentioned that he wanted "Quarriors" for their anniversary...air quotes and everything. I have no idea what that means.

Congrats to you both. I am very impressed.

Unfortunately, both my wife and I can never remember the actual date. We know it's sometime in January but we can never get motivated to find the exact date by trawling through the 'important papers' file.

Have a great day...

Thank you. And a happy anniversary right back at all you August grooms.

We didn't get as much done as I hoped last night. I thought we had two things of caulk at home, but when we got back from dinner we discovered one tube was the wrong kind and the other was dried up. It was too late to go out and buy some, so we were only able to get some bits and bobs of trim cut and another layer of joint compound up. So we spent the rest of the evening watching "Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle" and playing Quarriors.

The Man has finished the caulking, so it's back to work for me now.

We didn't get to go to the movies. We had forgotten that Francie Pants' was hosting game club at her house on Sat (thought it was going to be Sun). So we went over there instead after we got done spackling and caulking. Spent Sunday painting. The Man says the final coat of paint should be done by the time I get home tonight. Yay! Looking forward to not having to dig food and paper plates out of laundry baskets piled up in the study.

I stil want to see the Planet of the Apes movie. Maybe later this week.
