After about a 10 year run, I think I'm ready to retire my American Apparel grey hoodie. I love everything about it, but it's starting to look a bit blown out. Still, 10 years is a good amount of time for a piece of casual wear, particularly one I wore as often as that.

I'm inclined to go AA again because it was the perfect thickness (maybe I should say thinness) for Texas, was cut well, looked good, and fit perfectly under my jean jacket when needed. However, I hear AA is going under so maybe there's been a dip in quality in recent years?

I also hear this American Giant is a good one, but I wonder if it's going to be too heavy? Too thick?

I guess I could just go to a department store, but I like a slimmer cut than what's usually on the racks there.

For the sake of conversation...what's good?

Top Man has some good hoodies and they sort of appeal to the "upscale hooligan" look that causes me to spend extra money on apparel.

I can't speak to the quality of the construction of their hoodies, but DressLily.com has some very sharp-looking slim-cut hoodies at low prices.

That is one weird collection of hoods. They're either odd ball screen printed graphics, or some form of pseudo-superhero looking designs.

Useless trivia: In Saskatchewan, we don't call them hoodies. They're called bunny hugs.

Hoodies - I take the opposite tack from the cheapo shit . For the past four years I've worn a thin stretch microfleece hoody pretty much six months out of the year.

Synthetic, so it doesn't absorb a lot of weight when wet, dries out fast. Ventilates well if it gets warm. There are lots of choices out there in this realm, some cheaper esp if you look at closeout sites like Backcountry.com.

The other option is to go a thin wool from someone like Smartwool . That shit will get even more expensive, but wool in warm climes is pretty comfortable, and it is extremely durable. I've got socks from them that see daily wear and last multiple years.

Thanks for the link to this shop. I like my hoodies a bit more on the non-descript side, but there are definitely some products here I like. I was big in the lucha scene in the 90s and early 00s. Had a subscription to From Parts Unknown mag, would order tapes and masks from Highspots. the highlight for me in those years was ending up at the same bar as Rey Mysterio, Konnan, La Parka, Psychosis, Juventud, Lismark Jr, and Chris Jericho after one of their shows. Shot pool with them, had drinks, got a masked signed, etc. Good times. So, there are a lot of things here that speak to me particularly when you blend lucha and punk.

(Not sure about this one though)

Also digging that Rey Rey v Psychosis 20th ECW anniversary poster.

We really should have a pro-wrestling thread...

Well, despite my urge to buy the American Giant, I opted to go down the block to the local AA store and replace my hoodie. In the end, I figured AG is probably too hot for central Texas, AA is proven and cut the way I like and compared to AG I'd have a some cash left over for a haircut and a sandwich.

However, I went all crazy and got a different color.

American Giant has I think two different weights. I bought my wife one a couple years ago, she really likes it. I can't support American Apparel anymore, the owner is a total sleazebag who's been accused of sexual harassment and sexual assault multiple times.
