I don't know if I've ever seen this thread before...anyhow, my list:

1) War of the Ring
2) Cthulhu Wars
3) Wiz-War
4) King of Tokyo
5) Argent: The Consortium

Sadly these games rarely get any play in my group outside of KoT...

Damn, it's been 7 years since I wrote:
1. DUNE
2. COSMIC ENCOUNTER
3. FURY OF DRACULA
4. SPACE HULK
5. TALISMAN

Revised for 2017:

1. Cosmic Encounter
2. Cthulhu Wars
3. Space Hulk
4. Fury of Dracula
5. Dune

Not too far off, just some jiggering around and adding CW. Talisman...sorry dude! Maybe Relic should be up there...Dune I could almost leave off because we really rarely play it anymore. There have been a few opportunities but it never comes out over Cosmic or CW these days. But it is such a great game.

1) Dune - although I haven't played it in years.
2) Rex - which I argued sometimes is better than Dune... but, even though I play duneified Rex, and it is a very good 4-player and is over in under 3 hours, I can't stop missing the original Dune.
3) Cosmic Encounter
4) Spartacus
5) Twilight Struggle

This is the kind of AT list you get when you become a boardgamer after 2005.

Revised 7 years later:
1) Twilight Imperium 3
2) War of the Ring
3) Letters From Whitechapel
4) Mage Knight
5) Fury of Dracula

The biggest change is I now see that DOOM (first edition) fucking sucks.

I'm such a noob but 5 AT games I know of that I've never played but would love to try are:

Arkham Horror (board game)
Dune
Cosmic Encounter
War of the Ring
Battlestar Galactica

I wish I'd had a group who was more interested in playing stuff like Doom when I had it, I enjoyed that quite a bit more than Space Hulk (thats probably heresy here). Roborally I think is one of the worst games ever invented though. Consistently awful every time i've been forced to play it. Theres loads of games in these lists above that Ive never tried to be honest, it took me a while to push past the euro puzzler cobwebs to get to the fun stuff. I don't know if it makes me a heathen but I never understood the crap that standard Risk took, we played it loads as a family back in the day (the version with missions) and never had anything but fun. I don't quite understand why its rated something like 6000 on BGG, I mean six THOUSAND, perhaps its some kind of in joke that I'm missing.

My 2017 list:

1) Blood Bowl
2) Silver Tower
3) Age of Sigmar (mainly Skirmish)
4) Space Hulk
5) Gorechosen/Shadespire - haven't played either, but I'd choose to play one over anything else out there.

Sold my soul to GW...

I'd like to try Silver Tower most from your list Mr.White, Blood Bowl kind of appeals but from what little I've seen the game itself drags on a bit and becomes a bit bogged down in "gamey" tactics (surrounding a player with a cage of blockers, manipulating getting the ball at the end to get the go ahead score a bit too cheesily), and it needs campaign play to be good? I have checked out Elfball and Dreadball maybe theyre more dynamic, but these games are all based on the back of a kind of buy in obsession that I dont care for (for that kind of game). Id rather have a dynamic, fast flowing type blood bowly game where you can just pick the stats on cards each time and it be fun and varied and just have the one set of nice minis (or even stickered counters). And the rules shouldnt be so over the top and fiddly. just a handful of rules and chuck dice, is there anything like that? maybe that older game that had the different painted minis in it, I forget what that was called

Battleball is the game you're thinking of. It's pretty good.

I think my current version isn't much different from when I first posted on this thread...

1) Cosmic Encounter
2) Talisman
3) Duel of Ages II
4) Wiz-War
5) Nexus Ops

*edit* Found my original post...

1. Battlestar Galactica
2. Cosmic Encounter
3. Tales of the Arabian Nights
4. War of the Ring
5. Middle-Earth Quest

I still own two of those five games. The only one I'm really ashamed of is Middle Earth Quest. I must have JUST got that game at the time.

If we're just countring board games and not CCGs, miniatures etc:

1) Cosmic Encounter
2) Merchants and Marauders
3) Clash of Cultures
4) Space Hulk
5) King of Tokyo

Anyone know if Christian Marcussen is working on a new game? He's got 2/5 of my list.

Was;
* Titan
* Dungeonquest
* Dune
* A Game of Thrones
* Spacehulk

Now;
1.Cosmic
2. Ascending Empires
3. The Ares Project
4.War of the Ring
5. Dreadfleet or Space Cadets Dice Duel - as both make me laugh

When i first got into boardgames I rolled my eyes at all the old dudes that spurned long conflict games, now I am one of them. Cosmic tops the list because it always delivers, Titan, Dune, and AGOT have all dropped because they don't hit home often enough. Other than Ascending Empires i'd say Eurohybrid Shogun is probably my choice dudes on a map game because it always delivers.

Because it's impossible for the Marines to win if the Invader player isn't functionally retarded.

@DukeofChutney: I've had a copy of The Ares Project on my shelf for literally years and have never gotten it to the table. I keep holding onto it because I remember that it's an indie production by a couple guys, one of whom used to post here. Why should I be playing it?

Now:
Battlelore, 2nd Ed.
Wiz-War
Chaos in the Old World
Warhammer: Diskwars
The Others: Seven Sins
