As you may have heard, the big controversy in the Board Game world is that, after the release of Cat Fluxx, Doggo's have demanded equal time/equal Fluxx. Nope, never mind, that was all in my head. Of course Looney Labs had Dog Fluxx waiting in the wings after releasing Cat Fluxx.
Treated with the typical Looney Labs humor, Dog Fluxx gives you all those Dog Owner callbacks that remind you why they are considered Man's Best Friend: Barking at the mailman, chasing balls/sticks/cars and leaving lovely little surprises in the deep grass of the back yard.

Fluxx may be a game about ever-changing rules and win conditions but Dog Fluxx follows the traditional Fluxx formula. You'll find Keepers (The Good Doggies...err...cards) and Creepers (Bad cards that prohibit you from winning if they are in front of you). How many cards you can draw and keep will evolve as you play and the win conditions will rotate out just as fast as you can throw a ball for your dog to fetch and almost as often as that same dog will bring the ball back for you to throw again.
Dog Fluxx does trend toward the light side when it comes to information about the dogs that are included. Maybe I'm spoiled by some of the more educational versions of Fluxx or by the information on the Wingspan bird cards, but I found myself wanting just a bit more on the cards than the default dog name-with-an-image.

For those of you wondering, Yes, you can mix Dog Fluxx and Cat Fluxx together in a way that would have Dr. Venkman worried about the end of the world. And I don't want to rain cats and dogs on anyone's parade but it is a bit much. Since the goal cards are so skewed toward the canines and felines in each release, it makes for a protracted game when you combine them together.
Fluxx has gone to the dogs...but in a way that all puppy fans will appreciate. Looney Labs aren't trying to teach an old Fluxx new tricks, everything here is consistent with what you have experienced in other Fluxx releases but with the shiny coat of a freshly groomed purebred...or mutt, whichever you prefer. Dog Fluxx does double duty as a filler: once in the board game sense and again when you see a rendering of the canine that fills you with fond memories of a favorite pet.

In true equal time fashion, since I listed off all of my cats during my Cat Fluxx review, I'd like to mention the best boys/girls who would have been thrilled to grab this off the table and chew it to oblivion if I glance away for a second: Nipper, Poochie, Daisy, Belle, and Chief.
