Remnants, from Fireside Games, is the game that I had hoped would be the last game I had to buy in order to scratch the itch I had for the perfect post-apoc base building game. As it turns out, it's not. Despite a few really painful design choices, however, it's a fantastic little game which is fun, relatively fast, and has a ton of character. It's really not so much a base-building game as a real-time dice game with an economic engine of sorts that also has a base building element; even then, the base building isn't so much...

Sometimes, there is a difference between what game you have played the most and what is your favorite. Leaving out the classics board games such Monopoly, Poker, and Clue, that have decades long head starts on modern board games, I tried to narrow down what game I have played the most. Some games, like Coup, have the advantage of short play time and virtually no set-up. Others, like King of Tokyo or Magic, have been around long enough to fall into the modern classic category. Even taking those into account, the game I have played this most is Evolution:...

The more Martin Wallace tells me about Wildlands, the more impressed I get. It's clearly built on his wargaming roots but has evolved to become a quick-playing asymmetric game of fantasy combat. He tells me it's easy to learn, playable out of the box, but with plenty of mechanical depth.

Defenders of the Realm got a lot of ink here on the site - at least 9, including a Monty Python expansion designed by Grudunza, not to mention the infamous "Comic Sans Thread" in Trash Talk.    What did you think about it when it was first released? So what do you think about it now? Do you love it or hate it? Do you still play it?

Every week I take part in something that would have seriously troubled many of the people with whom I grew up. I set up a cardboard shield with a big picture of people fighting a dragon on the front. I unload a stack of hardcover books, gather a couple sets of polyhedral dice, and take on the role of Dungeon Master. My friends and I have been working through the Dungeons & Dragons module Tomb of Annihilation. It's one of the highlights of my week. I'm a Christian, and I play Dungeons & Dragons.

Wrath of Ashardalon the second game in a series of Dungeon & Dragons board games relased by Wizards of the Coast in 2010 - 2011. The first one, Castle Ravenloft, caused quite a stir. It was a D & D fully cooperative dungeon crawl that didn't a Dungeon Master. It had a simple, yet effective, AI and a highy accessible rule set. Wizards of the Coast followed up with Wrath of Ashardelon, which included campaign rules, in Febuary of 2011; and finally Legend of Drizzt in October of 2011. We have...
