47. The only time I feel like this place is old is when people start talking about how everything Games Workshop ever touched is amazing and how crap like Highlander is among the greatest movies ever made. Most of the young'uns that I know have far different crap that they laud as the greatest ever. Some of it I'm even aware of or like myself.

I am 44. I am not old though. I reserve that term for Baby Boomers who—seriously—need to get out of the way. I am so tired of reckoning with their petty bullshit. It's time for my bullshit to be what really matters.

About to hit 56 so yeah AARP and senior discounts baby! We always joke around here about finally having the time to play "WACHT am Rhein" or "The Longest Game (Day)" when we all get to the nursing home.

Jeeeezus! That is old.

I remember buying a copy of the computer game which came on 5 inch floppy discs. Just about the worst implementation of a game on computer ever.

Is this how we celebrate the 10th anniversary of this beautiful website?

Completely.
I also had my first eye test in nearly seven years just for good measure as I found, even with my old and trusty glasses, when the daylight was no longer bright I struggled to read the small text on cards found in most games I own (usually FFG small cards or games where they try and print 10% of the rulebook on every card).

So, yeah - I'm old.

30. I don't think the skewed age of these boards is anything to do with AT games, lots of kids play AT, but they don't come here.

Shellhead wrote: Is it possible that there is a strong correlation between age and the preference for AmeriTrash-style games?

In my experience, it's not age per se, but point of entry and level of involvement.

Most gamers my age who play boardgames can be split on two broad categories that have some overlap.

The first is people who got into games through video games, Magic or Warhammer 40K. They tend to seek games based on "what they are about" so they pick up Chulthu games, dungeon crawlers or branded games like Star Wars titles. These are all Ameritrash games, but, generally they don't play Nexus Ops or Fury of Dracula.

The second are nerds that get into boardgames through the social angle. They used to play Munchkin, Speed Jungle and Bang!, now they play Dixit, Mysterium, Social deduction games, etc.

I'm a weirdo not so much because I like games like The Republic of Rome, 1825 or A Most Dangerous Time, but because I like games that aren't sold at the local hobby shop.
