I've noticed this is now Abandonware on GW's website.

Has anyone played this? Would it be worth the effort to make a set?

No, it's a poor game. Way, way too complicated for the amount of fun you'll get out of it. And the theme annoyed me as well. Why would all the outlaws drive exactly the same car but with different weapons? Why would all the bounty hunters also drive exactly the same car albiet one which is better than the one the outlaws drive?

White Dwarf did eventually publish a set of campaign rules to this which heavily modified the game. It became a combat racing game on a circuit instead of the open road and players could work their way up through different divisions of engines, chassis types and cost. This was actually pretty good, but not good enough to be worth the considerable effort you'd have to put it to make a P&P copy.

It's probably a lot better in your mind than in real life.

I didn't think it was that bad, I had some fun with it back in the day. There was a lot of potential for some spectacular mayhem, but like Matt says it was a little too much game for what it is.

We all had custom cars painted to our tastes...one guy had this Front 242 car, somebody did an Afrika Korps thing...mine was all gothed out. I dunno, I don't think I'd bother with the PNP copy. Just get THUNDER ROAD instead.

There is a reason there is a clamouring for certain GW products to get reprints/more attention (Space Hulk, Necromunda, Blood Bowl, Heroquest, Block Mania) and the rest we are mostly silent on we are silent on for a good reason (although I remember having a lot of fun with Chainsaw Warrior which others don't seem to like).

Has there ever been a good Road Warrior/Mad Max-type game? Seems like a genre ripe for exploitation.

Thunder road and Car Wars are the best 2, but it does seem underexplored.

I'm just browsing abandonware, as I'm really in the mood to make a nice PNP copy of something. I'm swinging towards Leading Edge's "Aliens" game at the moment - the group loves the movies, loves co-op games, and I'm addicted to the flash version.

We may be getting two in the next year. Rush n Crush looks good (October), and Z-Man has one that could be great.

As to Aliens, that is an awesome game.

Troll & Toad had a copy of ALIENS at Dragon Con for $225. Expansion for $160. What kind of fucking idiot would pay nearly $400 for that?

Even in this economy he's out there- have no doubt.

Chainsaw Warrior rocks. Especially when used with the expansion that came in White Dwarf. Life and Death and an American Chainsaw I think it was called.
