Command and Colors: Ancients is available on Steam now, but there is no online play and it is getting negative reviews. For $13 I'm tempted to get it and hope they fix it with updates, but Battlelore, which gets mixed reviews, is only $6.00 right now, plus $3.00 for the DLC. Choices, choices.

I considered taking a flyer on it but I'd like to be able to network in my buddy.

You are better off getting the Tabletop Simulator module. Both Ancients and Nappy, and Mem 44 if you are so inclined.

My local Barnes & Noble has many board games for 50% off. I saw Talisman and Red Dragon Inn on the table along with others. The store said they are expanding their game offerings in the fall. New FLGS?

Take a look at Hexwar’s track record. The reception of C&C:A comes as no surprise. They make clunky, crappy looking games with some of most lacking interfaces. What I’ve seen of C&C:A is par for the course for them.

I haven't played any of them, but the gist of the BGG thread I read was no multiplayer, weak AI, bad presentation (did I read there's red text on red boxes?), and sometimes buggy rules implementation (problems with retreats off the board and implementing the "I Am Spartacus" card).

It’s one of those “buy now, we’ll ship when it’s back in stock” things but Amazon has Gloomhaven for $103- that’s about as low as you’ll ever see it -used-. And shipped for free at that.

Was tempted by Gloomhaven, then I looked more into it. I respect the design, but holy fuck that looks like a lot of setup. I will bite if they make a PC/Phone version lol

It takes less time to set up and break down than Descent, Imperial Assault, Sword and Sorcery, Arkham Horror, Mansions of Madness, Twilight Imperium, War of the Ring, etc.
It’s true that it has more pieces than those games, but You use just a very small number of components each game and even less if you use a companion app.
Much of the “OMG setup” has come from people who don’t have proper storage. If you punch it and toss everything in baggies...god help you.

My typical storage is to wrap an elastic around like cards, then dump the rest into the box lol
