Best New-To-You Games 2016?

Scythe, Orleans, Clank! and Adrenaline would be my new favorites played this year.

I really need to play Zimby Mojo. Not sure I have the right group for that, though.

Star Wars: Rebellion
Jaipur (My oldest kid likes to play this. I was surprised how long this game had been out; I'd never heard of it.)
Risk Star Wars Edition
Baseball Highlights: 2045 (picked this up from Barnes; l love this game.)
Pandemic Legacy
Codenames
The Tomes expansion from several years back for Cutthroat Caverns (the modules are kind of a one shot deal, but they were entertaining).

My best gaming experience was probably Pax Pamir.

In other news, I just discovered the image "insert" button after ten years on this site and hosting my pictures on imgur.

Easily Roll Player for me, both for solo and two-player. The character-building element is fun if you let yourself sink into it, and the gameplay is light and rewarding. ~20 plays in, not much sure how longer it'll last, and it's a $5 app packaged as a $60 future shelf toad, but I'm looking forward to how the planned expansion will extend its life.

Terraforming Mars for me. It's hard to think of another game that's come close in terms of times played (excluding Brimstone, which was pre-2016). I think I've played this game 20 times or something by now.

Non 2016 releases (I could make a top 20 or 30 of those):

Kingdom Death: Monster (didn't get around to playing this until January)
Mafia City
Survive: Escape From Atlantis
Time's Up: Title Recall
Ra
Winner's Circle

I didn't include 2016 releases either. I really liked these though:

Star Wars Rebellion
Zimby Mojo

Star Wars: Rebellion
Terraforming Mars

Seafall - I was really surprised I liked this a lot. I think it might be because we are playing 3 player and aren't running into the downtime issues I could see with more players. 3 player is probably the sweet spot.
Blood Rage
Forbidden Stars

Star Trek: Ascendancy - It's more random than what I normally like with an IP I don't give a squat about, but discovery needs to be random. I like the dynamic as a three player game and different means of pursuing victory.

Star Wars: Rebellion - The asymmetry is managed in such a thoughtful way and implements personalities and narrative more than just setting. The combat is is the only strike against it, but there's a pretty good game in there.

Forged in Steel - I haven't done too well in it, but it's a great historic game that allows plenty of meaningful decisions and mean-spirited interaction.

I completely forgot that I played Betrayal at House on the Hill for the first time this year. I really loved it. It's precisely the sort of game I like best.

#3. War of the Ring - Played this twice. Thought it was pretty great, but there are so many great 2 player games its hard to put it in my favorites. If I was a huge LOTR fan I imagine I'd like it even more.

#2. Star Trek: Ascendancy - I've played this 3 times, once as each race. I really like it and am cautiously looking forward to expansions hoping that changing the 3 players doesn't screw with the balance. It runs maybe a little bit long, but its pretty great when I can't get a 4th, 5th, or 6th player and we want to play something with teeth.

#1. Dungeon Crawl Classics - Not really a board game but this has given me some gaming experiences that are unmatched by board games, at this point not looking for a dungeon crawler board game anymore. We haven't even gotten to lvl 1 yet. Also if you even have an inkling or minor interest in old school fantasy art, pick up the rule book just for that.

Including last year's holiday season, I say two games rose to the top:
For my Ameri-trash mates = Cthulhu wars.
For my wife = Pandemic Legacy. We've enjoyed this a lot. We still need to finish. Starting October this weekend!
