This mostly mirrors my "most played" list (see other thread), but my favorites:

Family - Fabled Fruit

Family/Adult - Escape from 100 Million BC, Gloomhaven

Adult - All the expansions I'd been dying to play, and finally did (Steam maps, Power Grid maps, LoTR LCG scenarios, Prophecy Water Realm, Legendary)

Thanks for the link, Legomancer. Good read. Your high frontier entry made me laugh out loud.

It's a little strange to hold on to CitOW, Blood Rage, and Cthulhu Wars. Seems like I should be able to drop at least one of them but still holding all of them for now.

TI: 4 is now the recipient of this honor... but that's kinda cheating a little because its basically just my love for TI: 3rd.

I loved this great "cult-of-the-new" quote from Legomancer in his link. He tries to warn people on TOS, but, they just don't listen. Thanks for that! After being burned after purchasing so called 10/10 games reviewed by the churn, I now don't buy anything on the hotlist either.

Reading this list always makes me glad I tend to avoid the churning hotness. My lack of desire to play anything that is placed on my gaming table (and my friends' similar standards) kept me away from most of this dreck. And that's not even counting the Kickstarter dross.

Every year I think this list will cure people of "It's a new board game! What's not to love?" and every year I'm wrong.

Totally forgot about Zimby. That game had some issues with length but fuck is it fun.

I couldn't give that game away on Ebay, so it looks like I need to put on my big girl pants and re-learn the rules.

So, after much deliberation, I’ve made my decisions:

Board Game: Risk Star Wars Black Edition
Tabletop Minis: Strange Aeons 2nd Ed.
Dice Only: Rolling Bones
Card Only: Guildhall Advanced

I think it's got to be Terraforming Mars, which I got as a present for my birthday (after I worked up the courage to ask my wife, who gave it to me, whether we could trade a weak-looking Cthulhu-themed deckbuilder for this--I don't like exchanging gifts). We've played it 6 times since late September/early October, which is pretty good for us and considering the length. It's just a really satisfying game that's pushed out a lot of other middleweight games for us at the moment. Runner up (which feels a little unfair because it's hardly like I haven't had a chance to play it before, is Dominant Species. I was worried Jenn wouldn't like it, but it was a tough call for whether this or TM was "game of the year" to her. I'll also give a nod to Risk Star Wars Edition, which we'd had in the basement since 2015 but only finally got out a month or so ago. It's not deep and feels a bit samey, but it's light and fast and generally enjoyable and evocative.

If anyone is interested in giving Zimby Mojo a go at a faster pace, try these mods:

1. Change the movement table "max tiles allowed" from 4/2/1/.5/.25 to 6/4/2/1/.5
2. Make the shaman tokens worth 2 mojo instead of just 1 mojo
3. At the end of each turn, discard top 2 cards on the Scroll Library. Once it is empty, players get one last round and then game ends.

Those changes ought to speed things up quite a bit.
