Tresham's Civilization to be republished by Gibson

So yeah, apparently Civ is going to be republished by Gibson, who also published one of the early editions of the game.

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of a component upgrade. The tokens seem better and there's new, shiny box art but the map is still stuck in 1980. For me the important thing would be any possible revisions to the rules or official variants. Perhaps Tresham has introduced some tweaks to make the game better.

The target audience either has the AH edition, and/or the Mega edition, both of which have a nicer looking map. Further, Gibson doesn’t have rights to the Western expansion. There haven several rules tweaks over the years which make the game better, which it sounds like this game doesn’t have.

The map is an embarrassment in this day and age.

Considering the company that put out Mega Civ is coming out with a stripped down (read:less fancy) version, I would probably go for that one over Gibson's version.

Sitting next to that box cover, it's like a visual record scratch.

Not so much stripped down, just smaller.
