Being that I would like my game playing to have more depth than breadth, I love the idea of a 10x10 list. However, my groups wouldn't be down for playing anything 10 times that isn't Terraforming Mars. So last year instead I took a tip from my pal and made a 10x10 list where the 10 items are categories of games. I ended up getting to 85% completion, which is not bad. Most categories I was close on, except for the one actual game-to-be-played-10-times, which fell short because I didn't realize one person in my group doesn't like that game (Steam) and will veto it.

Undaunted, I'm trying again this year. Here is the list charting progress and these are the categories:

1. Best of 2018 (games that were on my "Best of 2018" end of year list)
2. iPad games (finally play some of these things I've bought on the iPad)
3. Kickstarted games (Games I backed on KS in 2018 and before)
4. 10x3 (Play ten unspecified games three times each)
5. Victories (Get ten solo victories)
6. Onesies (Games I have only one previously logged play for)
7. Tricks and Ladders (Trick-taking and climbing games)
8. Perfect Tens (Games I've rated 10)
9. GOTYs (Games I chose as GOTY in 2005-2018)
10 Neuroshima Hex (10 different Neuroshima Hex armies)

That last one is a question of how badly it will fail, since most of my group is less down for NH than it is for Steam. But I wanna get them damn armies played.

Anyone else planning anything similar?

Making it category based is a good idea! Hope you can get those Neuroshima Hex armies played. The game is one of my favorites. Steel Police all day.

I haven't figured out the terms of mine yet, besides not bothering to keep up with all the new hotness. Setting up a 10x10 is likely a bad idea as games have a way of going in and out of rotation around here. I'm open to suggestions.

Swear to God, my goal is a 10x1 this year.

This past year I bought an old house in July and sold an old house in December. I've spent the last six months painting and pounding and screwing, and not the good kind. I haven't played much of anything. This coming Monday I get a shot at a game night with my buddies and it will be quite a switch back to old habits.

Won't be playing Scythe, will bring BSG Starship Battles and Silent Victory and set up my own doggone table if necessary. In fact I may bring a table just to be sure. Very much looking forward to being back in the hobby again.

Hoping to grow a pair and get to some sort of con this year to play some of my more conflict favorites/unplayed, but I absolutely know I would get like 10% of something like this done. These are fun, though, it has been fun going through the list my partner made at the beginning of winter break.

It's crazy that you're stuck in the snow there in West Texas. You should be at Winter Offensive in Maryland in two weeks.

. . . I have you on flight 1515 on the 17th at 9:45, bounces in Dallas on the way to BWI for $187. Return on Monday flight 199, leave at Oh-Dark-Thirty for the same price.

Don't bother renting a car as everything you need is in walking distance to the venue.

So 2016 is the year where I really fell off the board game train, losing interest in playing practically anything.

2019 JUST started and I feel like this is the year I finally fall off the video game train :( I just can 't get interested in playing anything at all. I don't know what's going on. I'd say that maybe it's a phase, but this happened with board games and I never went back to them.

I don't really just want to become a guy who watches just TV and movies in bed, that can't be good.

Mars is the board game? I was looking for that today in the board game store. Keep in mind I own Terra Mystica and have ZERO plays so far, so it might not be my cup of tea

Is Winter Offensive a good one? These days I'm in the mountains in Northern Arizona at my house since I'm on break!

The big one I just need to go do is monstercon in phoenix and get one of these crazy ass campaign games in.

MonsterCon is likely a better choice for you.

I don't do big cons anymore because they're expensive and I don't feel like I'm getting anything more out of them than the small ones. You'd likely enjoy hitting the con in Connecticut in November with the rest of the old fatties. I'm trying to figure out how to get there this coming year.

Winter Offensive is Mecca for ASL players. It's damn good for OCS and SCS. It's good for IGS. You need to decide if those games will hit your sweet spots or not, and I don't recall you being an ASLer. It's really inexpensive if that matters, though you'll be hit for airfare. It's fifteen minutes from my house, so I always stop in at least for a day.

Yeah, I'm hoping to go to Connecticut (finally) if I get my sabbatical in Fall and the money shakes out.

Yes, although there is now a version on Steam. I'm partly joking about buying that (although it's one of my favorites), but not about Witcher III. If you like running around killing stuff, there's no better game.

I wanted to challenge myself to a 10x10 this year, but I know myself well enough to make it a 10x5. I want to dig deeper into a few games on my shelf but I also don’t to make myself feel like I’m denying myself something that I would rather be doing in that moment. 10x5 seems doable.

It's easy Sag, I-95 North, taking the Jersey Pike because nobody needs to end up in Philadelphia, to 91 North in New Haven, to 84 East in Hartford to lovely and scenic Vernon. Pick up Pete Putnam on the way.
