OK, here's last year's challenge where a few people posted:
therewillbe.games/forum/15-games-catchal...2018-challenge-y-x-z

I sucked badly:

5 x 5
TI4 - 1 (the owner disappeared for the year)
Star Trek: Frontiers - 1 (disliked it, sold)
Secrets of the Last Tomb - 5
Eldritch Horror - 4
Firefly/Forbidden Stars/Runewars - 3

5 x 10
MtG: Arena of the Planeswalkers - 1 (other games took over)
DC Comics Deck-Building Game: Heroes Unite - 8
Descent: 2E (including Road to Legend) - 18
Star Trek: Fleet Captains - 3
Claustrophobia - 1 (neither of us didn't rated it, sold)

I just didn't have that many sessions last year and numbers and people changed so games changed a lot to suit/match numbers/people. I only ended up playing just over 150 times so I suppose getting 75 plays to match my pledge was very unlikely.

But just over 100 of those plays were of less than 20 titles so did stick to keeping to playing a fewer number of titles more often, just a lot of those titles were either obtained last year or were dusted off from the unplayed pile:
Descent 2E: Road to Legend 12
Dungeons & Dragons: Castle Ravenloft 10
Defenders of the Last Stand 9
Mistfall 9
DC Comics Deck-Building Game: Heroes Unite 8
Runebound (Second Edition) 8
Space Cadets: Away Missions 7
Descent 2E 6
Risk Legacy 6
Secrets of the Lost Tomb 5
Battles of Westeros 4
Eldritch Horror 4
Space Crusade 4
A Game of Thrones 2E: A Feast for Crows 3
Star Trek: Ascendancy 3
Star Trek: Fleet Captains 3
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shadows of the Past 3

I'll have to think a bit carefully for this year, most likely a 10 x 5 option.

Edit: OK, that font/background colour scheme was unexpected for the 'Code' formatting.

It's been crap boardgamig the last couple of years. And it's been mostly light. Haven't bought a game for myself in a year, except the UBoot kickstarter.

Let's go out on a stretch and aim to get these to the table:
Secret Weapons of the Third Reich
Gothic Invasion
Bioshock Infinite
Mighty Empires
Quarantine
Bemused
Blood Bowl Team Manager expansions
U-Boot (yet to arrive)
Who's She? (yet to arrive)
Mission Red Planet

And get rid of another 25

I'm trying not too buy anything (much) this year since I have coughed out for two KSers (arrivng at the end of the year) so hopefully there will be no newcomers gate-crashing my lists. Also fudging it a bit by bracketing some of my longer games, I'd like to get a play or two of each.

5 x 10
Runebound 2E
Descent 2E
Risk: Legacy
Legendary Encounters: Aliens
DC Comics Deck-Building Game: Heroes Unite

10 x 5
Secrets of the Lost Tomb
Gears of War
Defenders of the Last Stand
Space Cadets: Away Missions
Heroes of Terrinoth
Mansions of Madness 1E
Star Trek: Fleet Captains/Star Trek: Ascendancy
Spartacus/Cosmic Encounter
Forbidden Stars/Runebound/Firefly
Sid Meier's Civilization/TI3/A Game of Thrones 2E/Warrior Knights/Age of Conan

That will cover about two thirds of my plays if I do around 150 again, so I have my target.

That is a healthy target, southernman. Jealous you have a chance to play these longer great games so often!

I'll be honest, I just want to cram as much 18XX and as much Dune as humanely possible. Last year I played 5 games of 18XX (which is solid, given I bought my new games in July) and 3 games of Dune. Let's see if I can multiply those numbers by three.

I'm happy that the people that are signing up to play 18XX are starting to get some games under their belt. Sure, they are not experts but they now buy and sell stock, shuffle trains and move the game forward. I think this will help them go much better.

I also want to get into VTES or any other "lifestyle game" because I need one of those in my gaming life. I truly miss Netrunner and not because it's an amazing game (it is) but because it allowed me to invest strategically and socially in a game in a manner going to the club doesn't allow me to. I've been tempeted to go back to Magic just so I can "grind" and polish a strategy and learn how to play a game beyond playing it twice and learning all the rules.

I'd like to get this 1846 copy I unexpectedly got played, but I'm not putting that here because it definitely won't happen this year.

Probably another of the reasons why my 'games played' count is lower than probably many here, for us a 1 hour game is usually a short game.
The longer games in my collection are FFG's Civ and TI3 and Warrior Knights and I'll be happy to get a play in of each for the year (will need to move a bigger table in for TI3 though). The 2 - 4 hour games (Forbidden Stars, Runewars, ST: Ascendancy, Age of Conan) I regard as standard to slightly long for my AT group, and I only get fewer games of them played than I'd like is due to the old 'too many games, too few opportunities' issue - hence the list to focus me .... until I get a new game or two (like last year) and it all goes pear-shape (doh!).

I want to build a board game table with my dad. That's really my only goal this year.

I have already played TI 4 once in January (and once on Dec 28th) and Dune once. Those three sessions alone might actually be more physical time spent with board games than I did with non-RPG stuff in all of 2018. Completing the goal as stated hopefully can help with that.

January update:

Good thing about the challenge is I've now played Bemused, Who's She? and Mission Red Planet. All three fun games to play in friendly setting. Had interesting conversation on the ladies in Who's She? with my girl so that's doing what it is supposed to. My friends loved the premise of Bemused that to take your adopted virtuoso to eternal fame it is better to get his competitors to succumb to doubt and dread.

I've added 5 Cucumbers, Dairyman, CIA vs KGB aand Nyctophobia that Satan provided me with since taking up the challenge.

So 3/14 after the first month. Hopeful!

No real movement on shedding another 25 games, although I've lent out King of Tokyo to a friend who has been playing it with his daughters to great success. So I won't mind if it stays there.
