Motorhead's lead singer Lemmy spun in after a battle with cancer today.
The Washington Post article doesn't say much more about it, but the band's Facebook page (Motorhead has a Facebook page . . . Heh) said to lift a drink and play his music loud in his honor.

2 days after diagnosis! That's insane.
RIP to one of the most distinctive voices in rock.

I heard it was cancer but I think we all know it was death.

He's not been doing well for a while.
I don't think the cancer was news, but I might be mistaken.
However, I'll be pouring one back and blasting "Ace of Spades" tonight for sure. Truly, one of the greats has left us.

God bless that man. I don't thing there was a cell in his body that wasn't rock n' roll.
I had heard that he had been in bad health for a while, a few months ago he stopped a show a couple of songs in and said something like "I'm sorry, I just can't do this right now." So I don't think it was a total shock, he probably just didn't know right up to the end.
I only saw Motörhead once...but it was fucking amazing. They opened with Ace of Spades...and closed with it. They also played "Motörhead" twice.

I listen to a lot of comedy podcasts (well, comedians not really comedy) and about a month ago I heard someone talking about Lemmy (right after his appearance on Maron's WTF) and they were talking about this big party at their house with all these celebrities. Lemmy was there and he spent the entire night hanging out in the corner with Joni Mitchell smoking cigarettes and drinking quietly. Apparently they instantly got along really well and were inseparable. For some reason this made me like both of them even more than I already do.

Isn't Joni Mitchell in bad health?
Best quote:
Fuck god, fuck the devil and fuck the church too. I'm responsible for my actions. I don't need to hide behind nothing. I did it...whatever I did.
These are words to live and die by. Take responsibility and live life to its full.

Lemmy was an iconoclast in a sea of them and I will miss him. He reminded me of this quote from Hunter S. Thompson, "“There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”

I texted my brother when I found out.
"Lemmy died."
Usually he can manage some pithy response to one of my texts, but all he had for this one?
"That sucks."
