Top 10 Favorite Fictional Characters

Something to help me get through the day...

1. Spider-Man Spidey showed me that even if you were awkward and geeky teenager, there was still a noble superhero inside of you. Still trying to find a way to simulate the radiation spider experiment though.

2. Han Solo Scoundrel with a heart of gold-most of the time.

3. Batman Super powerless human being trained to perfection. Every time I start to lose motivation during my workout routines I imagine Christian Bale getting out of bed and dropping to the ground to do some bat push ups.

4. Indiana Jones The reason why I wanted to be an archeologist when I was in 6th grade. And then I learned archeologists don't actually search out mystical items and punch Nazis.

5. Aragorn The genesis of the Ranger character class and the inspiration to 90% of my rpg characters.

6. Marty McFly Don't you just love his Johnnie B. Goode guitar solo?

7. Atticus Finch Book sequel be damned, Atticus Finch is a defender of truth and freedom.

8. Benjamin Sisko My favorite Trek leader. Noble and compassionate but will also get the job done.

9. Jim Halpert This dude has pranks.

10. Malcom Reynolds Even more Han Solo than Han Solo

Who are yours?

Halpert?! What a bunch of baloney!

Here's the real top ten:

1. Batman (I'm not even a fan but MAN what an interesting character)
2. Darth Vader - talk about a scene stealer
3. Gandalf (how can you pick Aragorn over Gandalf?! Are you NUTS?!)
4. The Joker
5. Daenerys Targaryen - dine on it.
6. Iron Man - so much more interesting than Spidey
7. Master Chief - Halo (uh oh...)
8. Tyrion Lannister
9. Hermione Granger - she MAKES that series way more than boring ol' Potter
10. Either Bugs Bunny, Superman or R2D2, I can't decide.

I've tried to stick to characters that i can get a picture of and are in more than one thing, so i've only got 5;

The wily fox and 'almost' always in control of the situation - Sanjuro Kuwabatake

even more wily and even more in control - George Smiley

Mostly from episode 4 because she takes zero BS from anyone - Leia

A fraudster who isn't half as cunning as he thinks he is, probably my favourite antihero - Cugel the Clever

More authority - Dredd

Looking at my five, you'd think i like authoritarian characters, but I often prefer the Deckard types who are out of their depth and trying just to make it through. I just cant think of many such characters that reoccur across multiple books or films for some reason.

Barney, I love Halpert, if for no other reason than his luscious hair.

In no special order:

1. Mister Spock - cool and intelligent, he was my first role model. Wish I could control my emotions like Spock.
2. Malcolm Reynolds - although Mal has many good (and some bad) qualities, I think that I admire his tenacity the most.
3. Veronica Mars - some people find her arrogant or smarmy, but I have great regard for her conversational wit and resourcefulness, along with her detective skills and powers of observation.
4. John Constantine - I'm an atheist, but Constantine fascinates me because he believes in the supernatural and interacts with angels and demons and other entities on a regular basis, with complete cynicism and irreverence.
5. Ben Grimm - he could easily have succumbed to self-pity and monstrous rage, but Ben is a curmudgeon with a heart of gold. He fights with a lot of heart and a surprising amount of tactical cleverness.
6. Corwin of Amber - cynical and machiavellian, but surprisingly sentimental about his violent and scheming family.
7. Tony Stark - it's hard to be sympathetic to a rich playboy, but Stark is also a brilliant and hard-working scientist who basically manufactured his superpowers.
8. Fafhrd - though he is superficially a generic fantasy barbarian, Fafhrd is a more complex character with wit, resourcefulness and a fine singing voice. Despite the untimely death of his father, Fafhrd managed to escape from a society dominated by female witches, including his own mother.
9. Arya Stark - I never guessed that I would become a big fan of a little girl, but Arya is my favorite character in the Game of Thrones series. She doesn't take crap from anybody and has survived more harrowing adventures than most of the adults in that series.
10. The Question - although I also liked the comic book version, I am particularly a fan of the Justice League Unlimited version, who was a self-aware and ironic conspiracy nut. He was also a clever detective and a non-superhuman who had the courage to challenge Superman.

All of those are fairly recent inventions. No love for stuff from myth? Odin, Zeus, Hercules, Odysseus, Satan, Lucifer, Gabriel, Michael, Noah, Lilith, THE MINOTAUR, etc.? Or perhaps we're just waiting for Friday.
