Out: new Frontiers, roll player, Onitama

In: arkham horror card game second core, dunwich cycle (6 mythos packs), standalone scenarios (first 2), path to Carcosa deluxe expansion, playmat

Rabbit hole engaged! Hopefully I can do a bunch of this card game without going Broke, because it seems really cool so far.

Out: Civ New Dawn
In: Gizmos

That's sure going to bend some people out of shape, but as much as I admire New Dawn it just wasn't getting played and no-one was asking for it. Both kids are already well into several games of Gizmos so I feel like I've traded out the better yet unloved game for something that has already brought a lot more fun into our time together.

Everyone seems to love New Dawn around here, but I found it incredibly bland and milquetoast.

'milquetoast' isn't a word you see every day. :)

No one I played it with loved it, myself included. Kinda felt like scythe to me personally.

Also, unrelated, for the record i love New Frontiers. The only reason it's leaving is my wife likes Roll better, my dad likes Race better, and the guy I know that likes NF better owns his own copy so yknow.

I was really into New Dawn for about three plays. And then I just had no desire to touch it again. It’s a smart, effective design...but it’s just not much -fun-.

In a way, it kind of embodies that emulative design style that I have really come to despise. It’s a game designed to simulate playing a longer, more complex game.

Way back when, "90-minute Civ game" was a Holy Grail. Crap like Tempus was being peddled as such. New Dawn is about as good a take on a 90-minute Civ game as has been made.

Something that I felt New Dawn did well was the spatial side of 4x. I've never got on with moving chits around a map as it's incongruous with the timescales involved, so I liked the idea of board interactions being influenced by distance and intervening terrain.

Commands & Colors: Ancients and its Rome and the Barbarians are out.

Sakura Arms, Battle for Rokugan and Runebound Third (in shrink) are in.

Turns out a box of 800 diaper wipes fits two GMT boxes pretty well.

Neuroshima Hex 2.5 (with expansions), Gloomhaven, Alhambra: Big Box, The City of Kings, and Rising Sun (with non-KS expansions) are heading out.

Hitler's Reich, For-Ex, Supply Lines of the American Revolution: The Northern Theater, 1775-1777, Cyclades expansions, Kemet: Seth, and Millennium Blades expansions in.

I am probably taking a hit on value, but I clear out a ton of space and get in some stuff that either fits in existing boxes or are relatively small. Seems like a good mixup for me.

I traded NATO Air Commander for a copy of Bloody April with its expansion, The Eagle of Lille

A light air mission planning game for a much heavier air mission planning game. I though NATO Air Commander was way too procedural and dry. Bloody April looks like it has a lot more chrome wrapped around it.

Outgoing: Lords of Waterdeep
It's not a bad game. I just have other worker placement games that I've come to appreciate more.

Incoming: Tiny Epic Western and Tiny Epic Kingdoms.
I'm a newb to the Tiny Epic line. Had never played any of them until I grabbed a copy of Tiny Epic Galaxies going for dirt cheap at Amazon. I really liked it, so I did some skimming through reviews and figured that Western and Kingdoms sounded best and most distinct from other stuff that I own. As it turns out, the guy I was trading with sent me Tiny Epic Defenders by mistake, but he said he was trying to downsize his collection and to just keep it while he sent me Kingdoms, which was very considerate, as I was going to send it back.

Going out: D-Day at Peleliu. It is first edition. I thought I was getting a second edition copy and it would be better for me to trade this and just get a second edition instead of paying for an upgrade kit. Plus, on the aesthetic side, the first edition box does not match my second edition copies of Omaha Beach and Tarawa.

Coming in:
PQ-17: It looks interesting. Plus it's relatively quick and on an action I do not have covered elsewhere.

Arctic Disaster: The Destruction of Convoy PQ-17: Well, now I have two games on the action. This one is from Against the Odds.

GD '40: I've never played TCS, so this looks like it will be my first taster. It was this or Black Wednesday, but GD '40 looks more manageable for an initial foray into the system.

Two more quick trades that came up:

Going out: Supply Lines of the American Revolution: Norther Theater, Plan 1919, and Seven Pines; or Fair Oaks. Three Hollandspiele games, which I now have to realize I think I just like Table Battles.

Coming in: Skies Above the Reich. This looks very interesting and it plays solo.

Going out: Axis Empires: Totaler Krieg!. With the new edition on the horizon, I am trying to dump these before it arrives (I still have Dai Senso!).

Coming in: GD '42. Well, might as well get another TCS game before I have even had a chance to try out the first one I am getting. I really just needed to move AE.
