I don't get this bullshit about it being too involved or difficult... It's a 15 minutes game of bullshitting... just say you're Duke, get 3 coins or rob someone or assassinate somone...
The Resistance is a much easier game to get into.

That death was quickly followed by another character death and one character going insane. It wasn't until the rookie cop from Alaska came out that some of these creatures started to finally die. Nothing panned out for me in this game and there was a theme of failure right when I felt that momentum could have shifted my direction. But I pressed on, completed two of the three Mysteries but not before the GOO awoke. This time I remembered to continue the game and true to form last night even when I started to feel like I might have victory from the jaws of defeat, the worst card or dice roll would pop up.
Lowlights:
-One space away from being able to initiate combat against an objective monster I was drawn away by another monster causing two turns of delay as I tried to get back
-Late in the game, with gates already out of control, I pull the Mythos card that prevents gates from closing
-After a tough battle with a vampire where I caused two wounds on it meaning a strong likelihood of killing it next turn, the Mythos card healed all monsters
-Multiple times I rolled a solid handful of like 8 dice and managed to not get a single success, when one was all I needed
In the end it was comedic, like the game knew what would undo everything I just accomplished.

Looking back my biggest problem is I picked a path of what I wanted to do, then switched gears halfway through never really completing any short term objectives.

Finally got around to playing Dragonscroll. It isn't going to set the world on fire but it's really pretty fun. It's a good game to sit back and relax with. It won't win any awards for strategic depth or clever mechanics, but it's a keeper for me. It occupies this weird space where it's fun to play and although I want to win, I really enjoy just playing the game and doing stuff and hoping that at the end I didn't suck at it.

But we played it anyway. As usual, the frontloading made eyes rolled (mine included), but after the first year everything clicked and we went through it fast, up until the 4th year. We were interrupted by phone calls, his skype session with her Japanese girlfriend from Tokyo, dinner, heated political discussion. And, oh, yelling Happy New Year. Fun stuff.

Anyway, yesterday I played three games of Jambo for the first time in years. I like it a bunch, though it's showing its age. More importantly, I played this games with my wife, who used to game with me fairly regularly but then stopped. We had a good time, and I hope we will continue with this.

We played Castles of Mad Dude Ludwig, Cosmic Encounter (with only the Dominion expansion aliens) and Bohnanza.
Mad Dude is a tile placement, victory point buffet. As the Master Builder, you will set the prices of room tiles other players will buy. You will build a castle with the tiles which provide points and at times special actions. I think the Euro Reclamation Project bromeisters will love. I mentioned to the group it reminded me of another game Suburbia (which I hate) and they said it was by the same designer.
I hated it less than Suburbia but not by much.
Cosmic was the usual mess of powers that took a little bit to figure out but in the end was a blast.
Bohnanza is still one of my favourite card games of all time. The shite talk, lucky card draws and bad deals makes it a classic game to play and own.
