I think that's maybe the best song describing a toxic relationship of all time (good album)... always reminds me of my own mindset going into the end of my first marriage and how fucked up I was.

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats have a new album dropping next Friday and the timing couldn’t be better. These guys have been my October go-to for years, perfect stuff for the season in which things get spooky and cold. Someone once described them to me as “the soundtrack to a horror film directed by Herschell Gordon Lewis where the hippy movement is picked off one by one by Black Sabbath.”

I’ve not listened to any new tracks and I don’t want to until I can listen to the full album, so here’s one of my favorite tunes off of “Blood Lust” (which is where anyone should start).

I've been listening to that Martha album basically on repeat for months now. The other one was randomly on in a store the other day and it caught my ear hard. I guess they've only released an EP but it's a solid 19 minutes of dreampoppy goodness.

You may want to consider Purson and Blood Ceremony for further October listening. They are in the same gloom rock vein.

Been on both of those for awhile now, but yes, they’re both great. Purson already broke up which is a damned shame. That first record is so insanely good.

A lil self-promotion--got talk to about Big Star for a couple hours on my friends' podcast. Still one of my absolute favorite bands of all time: desertislanddiscourse.com/podcast/episode-54-big-star/

I don't know why, but this has been my summer coastal driving tune. Fits with all the overcast 68 degree days.

Darkest while still humorous break up song goes to Prayer to God though:

Basically the whole album is like this. Dude was pretty upset.

I like that Eastside song a bunch, especially the acoustic version. I bought both anyway.

I played Funk with my buddy all night with Parliament*. What a day.

*Meaning they were being played through the amp and we improvised with it...

I saw Guided by Voices last night, and whadya know, they put on a hell of a show. I saw them maybe 5 years ago, when they were touring with the "classic" lineup, so I wasn't sure what to expect with the slicker, more polished players Pollard's been touring and recording with. Turns out I had nothing to worry about--they fucking destroyed for two and a half straight hours, ripping through a bunch of expected classics (Goldheart Mountaintop Queen Directory, Game of Pricks, I Am a Scientist, Fair Touching, A Salty Salute, etc.) and digging into some weird places in the discography. They also played a lot of stuff from their newest album, which might have been annoying except for the fact that it's exceptionally strong material. Doug Gillard can shred, but as usual is at his best when he's riffing and not soloing. They had to mosey to their next tour stop, so we didn't get the trademark GBV triple-encore, but I left very satisfied.
