If anyone on earth deserves this, it’s Jerry. He’s one of the most genuinely good men I’ve ever known

This is not a bad thing, if only because it'll allow me to have a Mice & Mystics experience without the fucking interminable dice chucking and bespoke, scenario-specific rules.

Thank god they didn't opt for Mouse Guard or Mice Templar. You know something with artistic or literary merit.

Guy who made Mice and Mystics may indeed be a stellar human being but the "story" of that game is balls.

Ugh, article calls it a role playing game proving that Variety is also balls.

No offense intended to Mr. Hawthrone, but I suspect that M&M was the “low bid” IP out of the mouse fantasy genre. Redwall is probably the top dollar pick there. Donjon’s quoted price was probably in Euros and they didn’t have XE pulled up. And it’s too soon for Dreamworks to have Root on their radar.

Secret of NIMH will always be my favorite mouse movie. Too bad its a bastard child and no studio will give it the proper remaster it deserves.

We just watched this last night -- the kids loved it. I still have the over sized kids book that is basically just scenes from the movie that we read on occasion.

Not intended. This is obviously tremendous news for Jerry and the Plaid Hat folks, and it could be pretty cool. But let’s face it, this is not an IP anyone outside the hobby knows anything about. Maybe that will change!

The only real negative is Dreamworks. I’d rather Laika have somehow gotten a hold of the rights.

Wow, totally would not have expected Alexander Aja to have anything to do with this. Great story about it by Jerry:

If they're in "final talks for rights," that's still quite a bit of time til we can see this thing, right? Nevertheless, Jerry is a wonderful person, and this director sounds cool. Makes sense why the game hasn't had any expansions for awhile though.

This reminds me that I still have a lot of Stuffed Fables to play through.

I have to second this (or third or fourth - I haven't read the whole tread yet) - Jerry is a kind, generous and smart guy. His game is perfect for this and I hope it does well, not just for him, but it will mean good things for the entire industry.

I'm brushing up my Rayguns and Rocketships pitch just in case Hollywood comes knocking... :D

Happy for Plaid hat, but Mouse Guard has better material to mine.

Totally agreed with that. I love Mouse Guard.

Mice and Mystics is a beautiful game, but the story is trite, by-the-numbers, bog-standard high fantasy. My kids and I played it for a while, then just got totally bored with the repetitive gameplay and dull story. It's just a shame that in a boardgame where they touted the "story" aspect ... they didn't actually write a unique, compelling story.

Here's hoping the screenwriter can make something interesting out of this.

After re reading this comment I went and watched The Secret of NIMH which I hadn't seen in a billion years. It is very good. And your tidbit of worthless knowledge for the day is this: Wil Wheaton voices one of the mouse children.

Worthless is right :)

How does Nicodemus' death hold up? I remember being DEVASTATED by that scene as a kid. That movie really struck me.

I'm jealous you got to rewatch that. over the weekend, i really went to town on trash. I watched Taken 2 and Star Trek: First Contact which was WAY worse than I remember it. I think the only good Trek movie at this point is Wrath of Khan (which is great).
