You Want it Darker ... L. Cohen is Dead

For years I've dreaded this. He wasn't a young man, in fact it seems like he's been an old man for decades now.

When I was a kid I would wander through the library looking for inspiration.. a teacher. I wanted to be a poet, a writer of some kind. I found solace in his poetry, I moved on to the novels, the albums. A teenager hiding in a small forestry/mining town who would escape into a book of poetry that his peers would call him a fag for reading.

For some of you it was Bowie, for some Prince. For me it was Leonard Cohen and I adored his work. It changed me forever and right now all the American political BS couldn't distract me from my mourning. Leonard Cohen is dead. There won't be another album. He was old, it shouldn't be a surprise but for some reason it's always shocking when an immortal passes. His last album was brilliant. I didn't want it darker, but now it is. Rest in peace Leonard, you had class.

I know it's not a competition but if it was, you would have won. The Nobel academy should have given you that award, not that it matters. There is no songwriter more literary than you were. Goodbye my friend.

He was not young, and as the family statement says, died peacefully. I hope it really was so.

Not a good year for legendary musicians, no...
