My grandfather died like this. His brain decided that swallowing isn’t something really important and so he lost the ability to swallow. Because he had a DNR order he died of emaciation
Yeah, this. My sister is a professional nurse, but she has been taking care of my mom on her own time for many years now. Professionally, she knows that it would be okay to just have the hospice administer fluids and morphine. But this is our mom and she isn't quite ready to let go of her, so she is having the hospice also feed my mom. Not by feeding tube, because our mom said that she didn't want that when she was still lucid a few years back. But the morphine makes it so that my mom can still eat and swallow food, though her appetite is usually poor.

This seems to be the case with David Cassidy as well. This passage from his obit makes me think he hated his life:
"There'll be a time when this whole thing will be over. I won't do concerts anymore, I won't wake up in the morning feeling drained, and I won't be working a punch card schedule. I've had to sing when I was hoarse. I've had them with a gun at my head, almost, saying "Record, 'cause we've gotta get the album out by Christmas!" I'll feel really good when it's over," Cassidy told Rolling Stone in 1972. "I have an image of myself in five years. I'm living on an island. The sky is blue, the sun is shining. And I'm smiling, I'm healthy, I'm a family man. I see my skin very brown and leathery, with a bit of growth on my face. My hair is really long, with a lot of grey. I have some grey hair already."
He spent his whole life trying to be famous again and drinking himself to death. I know he's no Malcolm Young, but still kind of a bummer.
