On my way back to Canada from Trinidad I have stopover at IAH from noon to 5:30 on Friday. Anyone here live nearby? Are there any game stores within close proximity?

Asgard Games looks cool - 3302 S Shepherd

GeekLife sounds great too - 728 W 20th St

There's also a board game cafe, Coral Sword, that would be my first choice only cuz, worst-case scenario, you can just have some food and a nice hot beverage :) - 1318 Telephone Rd

Are you allowed out of the airport, it being an international flight ? I leaned my lesson travelling back in October when I got out during the two hour stop at Bangkok to stretch my legs and ended up having to go through security again and then wait in the boarding lounge before boarding with all the new passengers. (Not as good as my story at the next stop in Dubai, I left my boarding card and passport in the x-ray machine and had to race back to find them - getting my photo taken by staff in the process, well done Tom).

Yeah, that's a good point. You'll have to clear customs and immigration, who won't be thrilled with you entering the States without a Visa, no? Also, don't they usually hate that when you leave your baggage behind?

There's actually a game store really close to the airport (relatively) called Ettin Games and Hobbies ( www.ettingames.com/ ), probably a 15 minute drive (getting out of the airport being half that time). I've been there once, seems like a nice place with a play area and big game selection (found a copy of WizWar that I bought for a friend since it's been OOP for a while), but I live 30-40 minutes away (with light traffic) and only go that way when I visit my Mom.

As far as getting out of the airport, I doubt you'll have issues. They keep changing things up and sometimes you need to exit customs with luggage and sometimes you can just exit (with your bags passing through to your next flight). If you exit with your bags, you simply throw them back onto a conveyor if you have a connecting flight. If you don't show up for your next flight, then they have to find your bags and pull them off the plane, and then you might have issues. But no one is going to stop you from leaving once you're through customs. Obviously you'd need to go through security again if you leave, so you do that at your own peril.

I did someething similar many years ago when I had an 8 hour layover in Paris. We left the airport hopped on a train and went to the Eiffel Tower (back when you could just walk up and get tickets). Other than finding the train station to return on, had no issues.

Those are great questions Tom and BB. I'll ask when I check in. I only have carry on items and no luggage, so I'm not concerned about that part.

If it works out, I will indeed post here.

Having lived in Houston all my life, I wouldn't bother chancing it for that window of time.
