Well that was pretty damn good.

I went with three much older people, two in their golden years. All of whom have very little exposure to Star Wars and one of which practically none. They all loved it. I really wanted to know what watching a movie like this would be like if you don't come at it with the nostalgic baggage that some of us have been carrying around since 1977.

That nostalgic baggage is what kept me from enjoying anything about the prequels other than Darth Maul having a dual lightsaber. I walked into Last Jedi with all of this on my shoulders and this movie taps into that in a really beautiful way. I was brought back to being a little boy watching Empire Strikes Back with my dad and just looking in awe at all the action. And boy is there action.

Visually, the movie is a total feast. I loved several bold choices taken by cinematographers and art directors. I also really enjoyed the beautiful score that I think many did not notice (and in their defence, how could they with everything going on).

Sure there was a thing or two that caused my brain to itch, but when your heart is pounding this hard, who cares?

This is the first director to really capture the heart and soul of Star Wars in some time. The desperation of the rebels, the resolve and inevitability of the First Order, the heroes and their stories that drive and inspire the desperate. It's all here.
