As mentioned in the Batman thread, for the most part, my circle has spread itself out. We've considered that Tabletop thing for something like some Shadespire games.

Anyone have any experience with it? Looks like some sort of high end Vassal.

I bought it three or four years ago and kind of gave up after spending about 20 minutes messing with trying to play Incan Gold and not understanding what to do. I'm usually more patient but just couldn't get over the hump and never went back. It's not intuitive at all, and you'll probably need to watch videos or have someone show you how to use it to get up to speed.

That's sort of what I feared.

Working in front of a screen all day, I'm pretty hesitant to do the same in my free time. I think instead of fighting with software, I'd just as soon paint a mini or play with the kids.

It didn't take much to unsell me on this....

I got it a while ago and will agree that the interface takes a while to get used to; I suppose it's a necessary evil when dealing with a program that isn't specifically tailored to one game.

I did manage to solo a game of Gears of War in it, and I also downloaded custom pre-built Heroscape maps, and instantly got every Heroscape figure. That alone was quite thrilling, but then I never actually used it to play Heroscape.

Friend of mine showed it to me recently. Roughly, its like VASSAL for Euros/Ameritrash games. They have a Rebellion gamebox. He plays Star Wars Destiny on it, they have a WAR OF THE RING gamebox as well. Like VASSAL, its dependent on someone creating a gamebox for a particular game. But seeing as WotR and SW:R are both games I like and play a fair bit of, its something I'll probably get around to trying.

I used it a few times to play Lords of Waterdeep with some friends. We're all familiar with the game so it was just a matter of learning the interface. Once we got that down it was okay but still took a bit longer than a regular game would. My main issue with it is if I'm sitting at an actual table playing that game I can read everyone's stuff from where I am or maybe leaning forward a little. With Tabletop I'm constantly zooming in/out, rotating the table, and moving the camera to read the other players stuff. While I'm zoomed in reading I don't see what they're doing on the board so then have to zoom out and move over to the board to see what they did. Also you can see other players mouse pointers so you always know exactly who's stuff they're looking at. Not a huge deal in this game but in others it could tell you who/where they're planning to attack on their turn or whatever.

I've used it with good success for Tech?no Bowl. Not many players around here, and it is a pretty slick interface for the game. Memoir 44 and the C&C games I play on there. Red Dragon Inn is fun to play with randos I've found online. My friend and I are learning Bolt Action using it as well.

I really like the tool and the potential that exists there is pretty great.

I just picked this up a couple weeks ago and am just now getting to checking it out. Seems pretty cool and I'd be up for doing some gaming with folk here with it. jlook on Steam.

Just want to add that it’s currently $9.99 at Humble Bundle’s store. And War Chest is on there, so if you’re curious about it, I’ll definitely play.
