Damn straight it is. This will be FFG's first $109.95 title. If not more than that. Mark my words, this game will be over $100 retail.

I've been wanting a game like this for so long it kind of doesn't matter, really. I failed my saving throw when I saw it.

And then that Charlie Theel had the nerve to post to our Review Corner Google Group "Can I claim it since I'm first". Ha! Hasn't he ever heard of executive privilege?

It's posting an MSRP of $99.95 at the discount houses.

As an aside, Star Wars Risk and its Black Edition just became largely obsolete.

Star Wars: Risk Black Edition is basically pointless if I get this, since I can just proxy in the Death Star and Stormtroopers etc from Rebellion.

Not to mention on FFG's site.

Check this: imagine if you play Rebellion as the Meta, and when a battle occurs, you play X-Wing, Armada, or Imperial Descent depending on the battle type.

I'm so very in. Between this, Forbidden Stars, and War of the Ring, I think I'm officially at my quota for licensed huge strategy games.

Expansions don't count against my quota.

Can you please explain this nuanced point to my wife?

So did FFG get the rights to make straight board games? Last I knew that was off-limits for them.

Either they did, or whatever loophole allowed them to make Imperial Assault allows them to make this too.

My speculation is that the individual minis they're selling with Imperial Assault allow them to classify it as a minis game. Maybe we'll end up seeing some single pack expansion figures for this too.

Surely it's just a retheme of Freedom in the Galaxy?

Yup. Freedom in the Galaxy and the original version of War of the Ring were both published by SPI in the late '70s. Both games were an odd hybrid of wargame and rpg, with both players controlling military units as well as individual characters. In Freedom in the Galaxy, those individuals went on special missions that could have an impact on the overall military conflict. And Freedom in the Galaxy was essentially Star Wars with the serial number filed off. You could even recognize individual characters by which Star Wars character they imitated. Given FFG's success with their edition of War of the Ring, it totally makes sense that they would try for a repeat win using their Star Wars license.
