It's funny how a lot of these little things add up when presenting a product that has a variety of experiences (appearance, tactile, game play, etc.) attached to it. I think the designer is right about going with the linen finish, as I vastly prefer that when handling cards. But they're also correct in that it can detract from fine line art, to some degree. I don't usually have a problem with it, either, because I have a predilection to just read cards, rather than admire the artwork. I have to make myself stop and do it sometimes and it can be handy, now that I'm getting older and it will be easy to see what card is played by artwork than by trying to read 8-point font from across the table.

Production "feel" can be really important. One of the best things about War Chest, aside from the great depth to the play, is just shuffling those heavy coins in your hand while thinking. Similarly, one of the flaws in Against the Giants is that a game about armies of giants is mostly cardboard discs.

Yeah. Too bad. User apparently violated one of the numerous sub rules. It's why I only look there off and on. It's essentially designed to be a useless babble of "This game is so cool!" and "Look how much I'm consuming!"

Hi! I made it over here from reddit.

One of the commenters actually convinced me to switch to a thicker lamination finish instead - the linen finish feels really nice to hold, but is apparently less resistant to wear and tear. (I shuffled the cards about a hundred times and looked carefully at the backs for scratches).
