A sad tale of woe..
Last September, I ordered 600 dollars worth of boardgames. I live in the Philippines and the only way I can get games is if 1) I buy them locally at twice the price (either through a toy store or somebody who sells them online) 2) get it 2nd hand from somebody who is selling it at higher than US retail prices 3) buy it from the States and then have it brought over by a relative coming home for something or the other.
That fateful day in September, I decided to do things a little differently. My friend Chuck, my brother and I gave in 200 dollars each and decided to buy a whole boatload of games. 600 dollars worth of Heroscape, Tide of Iron and Days of the Fox, Arkham Horror, Starcraft, and Ca$h and Gun$. Basically an ameritrasher's orgasmic dream.
I had them shipped to Charlie's girlfriend over in the States (a different friend from the one who put up 200 dollars) and then had her ship the games over here.
We did this instead of having them shipped directly to us because the customs over here in our country are awful. They regularly stop packages and then hold them for no other reason than they are corrupt motherfucking sons of bitches who want to get a little grease money and the games end up costing twice as much.
If you send something over by "balikbayan box" on freight, which is like a huge carton that returning Filipinos bring over when they come over for a vacation they will rarely open. Don't ask me why, I don't get it either.
Anyway, last December, the first of the two boxes finally came to my friend's house and we had a kickass Heroscape holiday. I wish I had gotten the other box though. That one had 4 games we hadn't played before, this one was just a whole bunch of expansions.
So anyway, it's been 5 months now and still no sign of that other box. For some reason, my Charlie's girlfriend has no tracking number, and when I called up the shipper to ask where the box was, they said they only ever sent one box to my Charlie. Huh.
I'm holding a memorial for these lost games soon. THEN I have to pay my brother 200 dollars for losing the games. Whut. A. Bitch.

Anyone want to take up a collection and replace one or two of them?

You got all that for only $200?
Sure it wasn't a scam from the get-go?

Sorry, that was a typo. Meant 600 dollars. Bought from Time Well Spent and Wargamer's Headquarters and House Mouse Games.
The games actually made it to the girlfriend's house. She sent them over when she got them and I only got a third of what we bought.
Or so she says. Our current theory is that if they're not lost at sea, is that she ate the games.
Or maybe Ryleh rose up from the great oceans and swallowed my copy of Arkham Horror.
