Was this brought up yet? (Hope not ;) ) Who likes or dislikes the new album 13?

It's better than many probably expected...

Yeah, it's pretty good...it's definitely Rick Rubin doing his "thing" with older acts, trying to get them to be good again by taking them back to their roots.

They're definitely and deliberately evoking their 70s sound, almost to the point where you have to ask why the hell they ever ventured that far away from it. Like, why didn't they make this record 10 years ago, 20 years ago, 30 years ago? Does it take that long for a band to realize that nobody wants to hear their new shit?

It is good, but I can't see listening to it for long...it's almost like a novelty record. I would never put any song from the record on over something from one of their classic albums.

It's a great return to form overall, but there is also a kind of bloat to the record. It doesn't feel urgent or desperate at all. It feels like old men playing hard rock (well duh), mostly because the songs are longer and kind of have a jammishness to them...that doesn't really sound epic like "War Pigs" or something.

So I give it the nod, glad to see them doing their thing and doing it well but it won't be a record spoken of as one of their best any time soon.

That's a nice summary and I agree with most of your points, especially that it's almost a novelty record. but what band or musician is as good when everyone is aged 60+ as when they were in their prime? not the Stones, not Bowie, not led zeppelin, and not the Police nor Talking Heads (if the latter were ever to get back together, which they were wise enough not to).

It's nice to hear BS have still got a lot of what made them great but it can't compare to their earlier catalogue it's true.
