60 pages of faction rules.
Man, I can't wait for this!

It's not up on the US webstore yet, but should be soon.
Only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger is the fairly reliable rumors of a stripped down 8th edition coming this summer. This Leman Rus that's been sitting in my closet for a decade needs something to do!!

GW has a bunch of kill team bundles for sale now, but I think they are just compiling the core unit box and then the specialist boxes. I haven't done the numbers but I don't think they are much of savings if any. The Tau box is the cheapest at $98, most are $100-$130.
Confused about the Grey Knights one, you get ten GKs (so two boxes) but can only field five. I guess you can use the extra for options.
Thinking about either GKs or Skiitari...

Different topic for those of you familiar with Necromunda. I find it is pretty rules-heavy, it is like two-three generations before AoS and it shows. Do you think it will be playable nowadays? I know nostalgia and all, and die-hards will be happy no matter what, but there has been some serious progress in board and miniature gaming in the last 10 years, to say nothing about the new X-COM. Bottom line - you kind of walk into squad-based tactics with certain expectations.

I used to be pretty heavy into it, but haven't played in a decade. Mordheim, legends of the old west/high seas took up my campaign level skirmishing after 2008ish. And even those have sadly been neglected.
I think it'll be playable nowadays, assuming the Armageddon rules are essentially the same. It was a fairly solid system. That said, there could be much 'better' types of systems out now, that may seem more contemporary, but I was never dissatisfied with necromunda. In fact, the 2nd ed 40k rules worked the best at this scale, rather than squad based. But the same was also true for Rogue Trader as well.

Vlad - Imperial Guard (Astra Militarum) Veterans are actually in the printed book that comes with the game. Alongside Space Marine Scouts and Orks.
The only thing I'm disappointed on is that I bought a bunch of Chaos Cultists thinking cultists would be their own faction (I mean, they have champions and heavies so why not?) and now I realized they're only a single unit option for Chaos Space Marines. This caused me to spend another $60 on a Chaos Space Marine squad on ebay.
I now have 40ish Chaos units, all painted, for around $110 shipped. If you're not interested in painting, I'd watch ebay and try and pickup a painted squad for cheap. There's many available to varying degrees of quality.

Alongside my current obsessions of Shadow Wars, Blood Bowl and LOTR I've also been reading a lot of the rulebooks on Legends of the Old West. Tell me more! I've been watching these battle reports and can't stop thinking about old west shootouts.

Pretty basic really with complications arising from falling off platforms/falling damage, campaign rules, pinning, hand to hand.

I agree, those initial unit lists of what would be playable made me think I could do Eldar Dire Avengers on their own, but it's really Dire Avengers + Eldar Guardians. Not a huge deal, but it has me looking at other factions I could play with one box of minis rather than two.

There are definitely some "one box" factions and some that aren't. Necrons, Eldar, CSMs, and Tyranids are not. But Tau, Dark Eldar, Grey Knights, Genestealer Cults and Skitarii are. Although I think you may need two boxes of Grey Knights just because their are only five and that locks you down on weapon choice (at least that's what I've come up with). Of course with all, the specialists are a separate thing.
I am concerned about the preorders at Doc's...I know retailers get an allocation and I put mine in I think within minutes of it going up...but if it doesn't work oit I'm just going with Promethium Forge and a rules download.

I only get information on it when I request an update. The responses have been quick and usually within a couple of hours.
