Recent Hidden Gems?

There are a lot of games being released nowadays and few people have the time to play them all. So its easy for stuff that's not Gloomhaven or Terraforming Mars to be overlooked. Any gems from the past five-ish years you think haven't received enough attention or maybe deserve a second look?

Shadows of Malice got a lot of attention here, but Zimby Mojo deserved more love then it got.

Battle for Rokugan is an excellent re-themed refinement of the Game of Thrones boardgame of the early 2000s. It strips away the economic element and the slightly clunky naval rules for a clean one hour game for 2 to 5 players.

I feel that Sons of Anarchy was unfairly ignored by most folks here because of the biker gang theme, but Vault of the Dragons will probably land well with the same mechanics but fantasy theme.

Not sure if the amount of love for these actually allow them to be considered "hidden gems".

#1 Luchador! still seems to always be a hit when introduced to anyone. It doesn't hurt that I love wrestling.

#2 Theseus I suck so bad at this game.

#3 Thunder Alley This is prolly not really a hidden gem as it made a pretty big splash when it hit. But it is far and away my favorite racing game and this is a chance to give it some love, so if you haven't played it you should check it out.

Have we talked about Wasteland Express? Why don’t we have a review for Wasteland Express? Someone should jump on that.

Theseus is a good choice. So much brainier than its setting appears.

It's pushing the five year mark, but I believe that Room 25 is an underrated title.

It seems a few people have been turned on to it by my incessant insistence, but more people should know its paranoid joy. This shouldn't be a sleeper hit as it is a damned fine traitor game.

I wish I knew of more entries to offer, but I'm out of the loop myself.

Perhaps I should play battle of rokugan soon with shellhead.

Much love for Room 25, Theseus, and Zimby Mojo. Zimby didn't catch with my group but my group sucks.

Techno Bowl needs more attention.

Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn

Everybody should own a copy of this game. All the fun of a collectable card game without that dreaded "collectable" part. Deck building is optional as the suggested decks are fun to play.

March of the Ants is the best 4X in the market and it plays in an hour. I recently made a list of 5 non-heavy games to always keep in my collection and it's in there.

I missed it in 2013, but I recently discovered Welcome to the Dungeon. It is a small, push-your-luck/bluffing game with a fantasy theme. My family has played it a lot recently, and I am planning to pick up the expansion (and probably dabble in designing some new heroes).

Abyss has been a big hit at our house. The auction mechanic guarantees a good amount of banter and screwage and the lord card abilities are varied enough in their effects that the replay value is high. There also hasn't been a single player who has dominated the win tally. Plus the art and underwater politics theme are very well done.

I love this little game. We end up playing it at least a couple of times when it comes out. Welcome back to the dungeon is on my watch list to pick up when I need a cheap game to hit a free shipping milestone LOL

Sons of Anarchy was mentioned earlier and my group loves it, even those who have never seen the show.

Black Fleet: mentioned in another thread. Adore it.

Donald X. Vaccarino’s Greed. A pure drafting game that is probably subsumed by his Spiel dea Jahres successes and dismissed as a Seven Wonders knock-off by everyone else (Vaccarino says he was working on it earlier, for what it’s worth).

With a mid-century American gangster setting, you’re out to make the most money. Every card is unique, and they’re well designed enough that even a first-time player should feel like they’re making clever plays. All of the character names are references and jokes, but I still laugh at “Nothing Beats Rock” Benson.
