Sucker Punch trash-talked by NY Times

A.O. Scott at NYTimes:

You could go to see “Sucker Punch” this weekend — a lot of people probably will, and a few may even admit as much back at the office on Monday — or you could try to make it yourself, which might be more fun, though not necessarily cheaper. Here’s what you will need: a bunch of video-game platforms; DVDs of “Shutter Island,” “Kill Bill,” “Burlesque” and “Shrek”; some back issues of Maxim; a large bag of crystal meth; and around $100 million. Your imagination will take care of the rest.

THAT is the way to start a movie review!

I'm set, except for the $100M, and how big is a "LARGE" bag?

I was fired up for this one until I saw the previews. Now I think I'm going to avoid it.

Frankly, they would have done better if they just opened the movie mid-battle with mech-bots and just went from there on an all-out romp through dragons, storm troopers, ninjas, the works and finished when they got to the big bad guy and offed him. All this insane asylum brothel bullshit is just in the way.

Even contrarian movie critic Armond White doesn't like it .

I was just about to post this. I always check his reviews second.

Are people surprised. The guy has tried to steal other people's thunder to stake his claim in the biz. His "signature visual style" is a pastiche of the gibbons and miller he learned to rip off (notice that his DotD doesn't have this style) and all he's been able to do so far is make great thing mediocre.

Someone actually expected him to be able to do an original story?

It looks like a train wreck and I'm actually curious once it comes out for netflix I'll sit through it.

I couldn't tell if that review was positive or negative. It sounded pretty cool from how I read it.

If it's still in the theater in a couple of weeks I'll probably go see it. I'll have a bunch of family-free evenings, and it looks like just sort of thing a theater is made for.

If it gets to Netflix without me having seen it, odds are I never will.

Nooooo....dammit I *need* a good movie to come out! I'm tired of the shit foisted upon cinemas over the winter months! I'm tired of the self-important pompous fellatio-fest called the Oscars!

I WILL USE MY VERY SPIRIT ESSENCE TO WILL THIS TO GREATNESS! THIS, I COMMAND!

Sorry, Ken, but good movies only come out in certain months, primarily May, June, July, November, and December. The rest of the year is generally trash.
