Wonton Bloodshed was created by Sagrilarus
There is a compelling reason for me to remain at work instead of driving just twenty minutes down the road to Multiman's wargame convention.

If any of you stumble across it please let me know.

It probably smells slightly less of body odour at work.

Bring your camera. Have your bosses contact me if there are any problems, I will get their priorities corrected.

I don't understand the title of this thread. Is there a Chinese food massacre happening somewhere?

Wow, you know I think I really feel something coming on. If I'm sick tomorrow I think work is out of the question.

Didn't go today, but I'm going tomorrow. I figured it wasn't worth half-assing it and still paying the entry fee when tomorrow I can be at the desk at 8am.

I'd like to get a game of WofG in against a different opponent to see what I haven't thought of yet. I'd very much like to get a game of Kingdom of Heaven in, but I doubt it's going to be there. Other than that I'm going to keep an open mind and see what's available.

I'm bringing a camera. This event is the best kept secret in gaming. Considering it's for charity that's kind of lame. I'm thinking of sending a resume to MMP to fill their "Communications Manager" job which apparently has been vacant since the company was founded. Were it not for the rabid fan base of ASL no one would know who they were, and that's a shame, because they are releasing some top shelf titles right now.

Adam Starkweather has put quite some effort in supporting their products on TOS, and the monthly P500 updates by Iain K do help (ie I keep falling for it occassionally).

however, I didn't know of the event. Doesn't make much of a difference as I'm miles away, but nevertheless, it is not heavily promoted.

I guess it is relatively effective for them to promote through the established channels to acknowledged grognards who have everything on pre-order, rather than casting their net wider, which would probably involve a sizeable investment and uncertain returns. Worse, probably the returns are certain and nearing zero.

No company can survive depending solely on old business contacts. To a large extent ASL sells itself, but some of their materials coming out would appeal to a broader slice of our very small, geographically diverse hobby. A few ads or conversations on the more heavily traveled websites would do them some good. Starkweather has been far more attentive with IGS than the remainder of their staff.

A year or so back I showed up at their headquarters, and the two women inside were pretty floored that they were speaking to an actual customer. Avalon Hill's mail-order strategy of 1974 hasn't changed much.

I'll be bringing a camera and a notepad in case there's some interesting displays. I've never been to this event -- it may be seven guys. But I figure it's worth having a look.

They have a good presence on both BGG and consimworld. I don't think they are doing too badly, with ASL and the success of the IGS games, you have to look at them as the #2 wargame publisher behind GMT and whoever is #3 (columbia, maybe?) is way way behind.

MMP's problem is they don't do that many hybrid/crossover games, so they don't tap into the "eurogamers who wish they were playing wargames but don't know it yet" crowd the way GMT has with titles like C&C:A and twilight struggle.

Lets face it, you aren't going to wean an addict off of caylus with OCS, ASL, or even lighter stuff like Warriors of God / AVL, etc.
