I've played the demo of GH: Metallica with my RB 2 drums and it worked just fine. I believe all the RB 2 instruments will work with it.

I did some poking around.

I've found references to GH:WT instruments working with Rock Band 2 for the Wii.

And a few indications that the reverse is not true.

This would kind of fit the model of the two companies. Harmonix really has gone out of the way to support other instruments and things. (See the freakishly esoteric Stage Kit which is ONLY for the 360, but Harmonix is still coding into every song.) Activision....doesn't play well with others.

Sadly, that means the best way to go is probably to buy the cheaper GHWT instruments.

Frank, are you sure about this? I own GH: WT on the Wii and would love to play Rock Band with the GH instruments. So I double-checked after reading your post, but according to this website (and others) there seems to be absolutely no cross-platform game support on the Wii. :(

Hey Schlupp, a lot of conflicting articles on the intarweb, but a friend of mine swears that his GH:WT gear works on Rockband 2.

He says that this is true:

www.joystiq.com/Instrument-Compatibility-Matrix/

while this:

blog.wired.com/games/2008/11/official-guitar.html

is a bag full of shit.

Gaah!!! I saw that the article I linked to dates from 6th of April 2009, so I assumed it is true. But if your friend says it's working then that's seems to be definitive proof. Stupid Internet.

Alright, this is the official compatibility chart from the GH website, and it seems really all Wii instruments work with Rock Band 2. Excellent!

Yeah, I've personally played my GH:WT Wii guitar on Rock Band 2. No issues, other than the fact that RB2 doesn't use the slider.

Harmonix has been quite diligent about supporting any available hardware for the Rock Band games. The two slip-ups were:

1. Rock Band 1 Ps3 guitar support for GH guitars. They had the patch ready and Activision blocked the release of it.

2. Rock Band 1 for the Wii doesn't support much at all. I believe the original port was done by a different dev.

By the way. Check Tanga. $105 + $10 shipping for GHWT Wii.

Finally got to play guitar hero: world tour when i got home this weekend.

it's good, as good as i remember playing rockband 1 when i was over in new york at my cousin's.

still, i think i'd enjoy a good game of war of the ring much better, though they scratch different itches. my sole reliable gaming partner is gone. devoured by his drums. meh.

I'm not sure what the OP did in the end, but I wanted to mention that I think he should get Rock Band 2 over Guitar Hero: World Tour. I have both and prefer Rock Band 2 (GH:WT is good, don't get me wrong). On the Wii, Rock Band 2 is superior as well.

Whatever you guys do, look into Guitar Hero Smash Hits. It sounds like shovelware as it's pretty much a "Greatest Hits Package" for Guitar Hero, but all in one game. However:

1. This is the first time some of these songs are available on a next generation console.

2. You get the best songs from the older GH games in one place--no disc switching.

3. For many, many of these tracks this will be the first time that the Master version (no covers!) will be featured. That alone is worth the price of admission, especially if you've been playing the series since part 1 when getting "real" versions of songs were a pipe dream.

4. Oh yeah, and they added FULL BAND support for these songs. So even if you'd played them all to death already, even if you don't care about the master/cover version thing, they've added FULL BAND support. This is freaking awesome!

They've only yet to reveal which "Rocks the 80s" songs will make the cut, but almost the entire songlist has been revealed. Check it, it's like a dream list more or less:

"Bark at the Moon" Ozzy Osbourne 1 Guitar Hero

GOD DAMN there's some great stuff on there...we just don't ever play GHWT.

"Killer Queen"? That's a singer's song right there. Sucks that "Unsung" is live though.

Oh man, if they actually do the drum parts justice, this will be a bear. Will Calhoun would hit on weird half-beats all the time--very jazzy.
