In prep for Kingdom of Heaven I listened to The Crusades through Arab Eyes by Maalouf which was quite good and The Era of the Crusades from The Teaching Company which is an 18 hour lecture series.

Maalouf was the better of the two and brought some interesting insight into the fractured nature of the Muslim side of the conflicts. That was stuff I hadn't heard before, certainly not in detail.

I think Jerry Taylor handled this pretty well in Crusader Rex. In the draw phase, Saracens are deployed at full strength in their own seats, but only at strength one if placed in a friendly town.

Why wait for KoH, play CR today! :)

I'm almost half-way through the book and I've yet to read anything about when the stork comes into the picture. I'm super confused so far. Mucus plug?!

I am currently reading The House in the High Wood, by Jeffrey E. Barlough. The back cover proclaimed it as a cross between Arthur Conan Doyle and H.P. Lovecraft, but so far it seems like a more accurate comparison would be William Hope Hodgson and Charles Dickens. It's good. Takes place in an alternate 19th century Britain where the Ice Age never quite ended, leaving sabre-tooth tigers and wooly mammoths extant. It starts slow but is steadily building in drama, almost definitely towards some kind of supernatural threat.

I'm reading Gilead by Marilynn Robinson. Anyone read it? It is a great book...an incredible read. (Not AT in any way, shape, or form!)

I'm doing it.

I'm finally reading Frank Herbert's DUNE.

I always used to call him Frank Sherbert as a kid, because his name sounded like the candy. How silly I was. Anyways, it's an epic read that will last me the summer.

I just finished "Day of Battle" by Rick Atkinson. IT was a pretty good overall perspective of the war in Italy and is a followup to his book called "Dawn of War" which was a pretty good perspective of the North African Campaign. Supposedly he is working on a book about Normandy and beyond and I can't wait.

Currently I'm ready a book about a Tiger that ends up getting revenge on a hunter and then has to get hunted by this group that is supposed to conserve tigers.
