Have any of you played the Flying Colors series of GMT games? There's a third edition box coming out with a ton of content and I've heard it's highly regarded. Anything stick out to you about the gameplay? Subjective sense of the weight?
They're producing a south america expansion which I have a huge soft spot for since my dad has worked in south america almost his entire life and we have a bunch of the south american tall ships that fought in these conflicts as models (e.g. Esmeralda:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esmeralda_(BE-43)
; of course Pinochet ruined the thing by using it as a torture and imprisonment area)
I wish I could, but I sold/traded off FC, Serpents of the Seas, and the one about the American fleet without having played any of it. Dunno why, really, it didn't get played. It's not the rules weight, which is not particularly heavy, and I've thought about the 3e box (which has the base and Serpents and probably some more stuff I'm not remembering).
The series is on my short list of games to buy at some point. I am a fan of age of sail in general and this hits me in the lizard brain. However, I have Man O War that I cannot get to the table and given the choice, I would lean to MOW, warts and all.
I'll still likely buy the 3ed when available because I'm a sucker.
