Monopoly isn't AT. It's a relic from an older time.

Oh yeah, good point. Seems the poster thinks AT also includes traditional mass market games which it doen't.

In the end, I thought it was a good article. Everyone here should be happy that The Economist, no less, has brought the term "Ameritrash" into the public mainstream.

Remember the topic of the article fell under "German Recreation"...so this was more an article about Germany... than it was about boardgames. I didn't think the author was disparaging of Ameritrash either.

But what are we so down about Risk and Monopoly for? Those are two very good, fun games to play. I thought it was just the Euro-crowd that dissed those games... now elements of the Ameritrash crowd are doing it?

Geez? What's next? Amerisnoots?

I didn't think any of us were trashing either game. Risk is still one of my favorites and I have played Monopoly within the last few months. Just because they are "relics" doesn't mean I don't respect them like an elderly grandparent :)

And please, I'm an Amerisnot. Amerisnoot sounds too refined.

I have a subscription to the Economist. That is easily the strangest and unlikeliest article to appear since I've been getting it.
