Do You "Plonk" in Real Life?

More

I plonk in all aspects of my life. I'm thirty-fucking-five years old. My life is easily half (to more than half) over! I will not spend a second more than is necessary with someone I don't want to be around. Life's too short to be surrounded by asstards.

All the time. However, I would say that I am misanthropic to some degree, so I can get sick of people pretty easy. I need the alone time sometimes, and it's easier to just ignore some people.

...and when you work with a guy who claims to have been a marine, a porn star, an ironman suit inventor, a samurai sword manufacturer, mixed martial arts champion, etc. and is only 19, you get good at ignoring them.

He sounds like the ultimate Internet Tough Guy.

Pretty much. He is universally despised at my work, and is finally quitting. Joy!

He also has no concept as to what is real and what is fantasy. He thinks a vampire for the god's sake.

I've worked with a guy liked that, too. We called him "One-Up" ... no matter what anyone had ever done in their lives, he'd always done it just a little bit better.

I know a guy like that -- only his line that prefaces his one-up is

"That ain't nothing..."

which is now a running joke in our group.

Holy shit. Are we sure we're not talking about the same person? The semblance is uncanny!

Well, the guy I know is from the middle-of-nowhere in Oklahoma. Maybe they are related douches.

Back when I still played CCGs a lot in local game shops, we had a One-Up type that sometimes played with us. One time, he showed up more than an hour late, but declared that we were all losers, because he just had sex with his girlfriend. I pointed at the work ID badge still clipped to his jacket and said, "Apparently she has trouble remembering your name." Everybody laughed, and he slunk away to buy some cards.

We go to church with a lady like this. So we make these ridiculous claims to see how she'll one-up us. Church is fun!

One-uppers annoy the crap out of me; they just keep talking to you even though it is impossible to have a conversation with them. They somehow turn any regular conversation into a retarded competition in a matter of seconds. One of my wife's friends went into 1-upper mode when she got more comfortable around us and we eventually had to "plonk" her.
