Research on hybrid boardgames was created by melissainau
Hello!
I am a researcher from Melbourne, Australia. I'm currently looking at the experience of playing hybrid boardgames, which combine physical pieces with an app or website.
We are running a survey – see hybridgameresearch.wordpress.com/survey/ – to understand people’s attitudes to this type of hybrid boardgame – love them, hate them, or somewhere in between. It takes about ten minutes to complete, and I would value as many opinions as I can reach.
As part of this study, I will also be attending MEGA/MIGS in Montreal this weekend and BGGcon in Dallas, where I will interview people in the boardgame industry about their thoughts on this style of game (If this is you, please reach out or fill in the appropriate boxes in the survey). The outcomes of these studies will be freely available through our project website and also through the Game-in-Lab initiative, which has sponsored the project.
Whether you love these games, loathe them, or have a completely different opinion, whether you seek them out, avoid them or don't care, I'd welcome your contribution. You do not need to be a hobbyist boardgamer to participate.

For me there's just no meaningful artistic difference between a boardgame, a video game and a "hybrid". They are the same medium, even if one users cardboard and another uses electrons.
After all, I play Chess almost exclusively on my phone. Is that something completely different than the Chess I play in person? What about card games? Is Legend of the Five Rings played online not the same game than the L5R I play at the local store? Is 18XX different when I use an excel sheet to calculate payouts than when I use pen and paper?

Done. I liked that I was not asked for how how long I've been playing board games.

Thank you to all who have done the survey. I really appreciate it.
@Nodens - I'm interested why you like the absence of that question. I know why I didn't include it, but would like to hear your thoughts.

Oh, it seems to always be included in this kind of survey and it always - at least to me - seems to imply that someone's opinions are worth more than somebody else's. We all have played a lot of different games here and know what we like, but I just can't look down on somebody who has only been playing for some months and hasn't had the chance to really see what may be out there for them.
