Monday was Poe's 200th birthday. I can attest to the impact he had on me growing up.

My apologies if this topic has already been covered.

Poe was one of the best short story writers ever. In just a few pages, he could deliver a devastating tale with searing imagery.

Recommended celebration viewing- the Roger Corman/American International Poe films. Particularly HOUSE OF USHER, PIT AND THE PENDULUM, MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH, and TOMB OF LIGEIA. I'm constantly torn as to whether MASQUE or LIGEIA is the best of the lot...I think both are masterpieces of 1960s gothic horror and fairly respectful to Poe.

Did you guys know Stallone wants to make a Poe film?
Apparently it connects parts of his life with his stories/poems, which were to be done as animation during certain parts of the movie.
Internet people who have read it rave about it.

I heard about that! In one scene Stallone is doing a scene from the "Tell Tale Heart" where he had murdered one of the writers of the movie "Rhinestone" and buried him under his house, but his heart kept beating in time to a country song and drove him mad!

Sandi bought black cupcakes on Monday, so we did our bit of celebration.

Why's it always have to be about the color of a cupcake's frosting? When will we all be cake-blind?

EDIT: And in other thread-related news - I love Masque of the Red Death and also The Cask of Amontillado. I'd thought he did The Monkey's Paw as well, but it appears that it was some other old chap, W.W. Jacobs.

Note that they did this Monday. You know, before the world changed.

Michael Jackson was trying to get a Poe film going for a couple of years with him starring as Poe.
