by the way, i don't think we ever decided on a specific ruleset

both

www.diplomacy-archive.com/diplomacy_rules.htm
and
www.diplom.org/~diparch/diplomacy_rules.htm

were brought up..but i couldn't find which we decided on. I've always played with the 1976 rules, but we could go ahead and switch to the 2000 rules to get everyone up to date.

What's the difference?

And after reading through the rules, I think I understand it all except for one thing; if you take control of a neutral supply center and then vacate the territory, do you retain control of the supply center? Or do you have to have a unit on it at the end of the year to control it? I assume that home supply centers are always under your control, unless someone else's unit is sitting on them.

You have to have a unit there at the end of the fall turn to control a neutral center. Once you do that, it's yours until somebody else takes it in the same way.

Cool, and then if you vacate the space you still retain control of it (until someone else comes in, anyway)?

EDIT: nevermind. I see the answer is yes in the 1976 rules. Thanks!

So, I added a list of Who's Who to the beginning of this thread.

Also, is it OK to send/receive press by PM here? After today, I don't think I'll be able to get on Dipbounced at all until Friday afternoon.

I say communicate however you like but there are advantages to keeping it all in one place.

I'm had just signed in as a guest and was watching the end result, as I had never used a PBEM before. But I guess you have not started yet, as you are in 1901 Winter.

Even so, it should be interesting when it does get started. Good luck, everyone.

Thanks! And feel free to take the role of America or some other faraway land by participating in the trash talk even though you don't actually have any armies or fleets anywhere near the action. :p
