It is also perhaps one of an extremely tiny set of games where the mechanics of combat are so slim as to put the emphasis of the game squarely on the intrigue parts.

Once you decide to betray someone, you don't want to spend the next three hours slowly grinding out the betrayal results. The decision and resolution should be quick. Dune gets that. Damned few other games do.

That is a great point about the combat and intrigue.

However, it also applies to Cosmic Encounter.

I'm wavering on this one. Although I am not a big fan of the Dune books (interesting, but not overly enjoyable), the boardgame is very good, and really delivers the theme. But I've played a couple of games that were so short that it was frustrating. Thematically, Cosmic Encounter lacks appeal, but the new Fantasy Flight version is so well-implemented, with both clean rules and nice mechanics.

You know, when I first saw this subject thread I thought we were going to have an anecdote on flipping the table. Boy was I disappointed!

Flipping the table is never out of line if you're playing Risk.

3: Who gives a shit as the admin hasn't been keeping up with that thread anyway.
4: Trolls? We don't have trolls here.
5: If you weren't meant to write about the game then it should have been a poll.
6: No.

Fuck me. Best answer ever. We need more of these "roll 1d6 choose your own administration" games around here....

Yeah, you were trolling.

By the way, what the hell is Dune?
