What KICKSTARTER(S) are you BACKING and WHY?

I've kept 15/28, and I'm waiting on 2. Most of that number is little card games, as they tend to fall into the impulse buy price range and my wife and I enjoy them.

I don't think my retail purchases have any better a batting average. I'm not entirely sure my used purchases do either, but at least they were cheaper, and sold for about what I paid for them.

Truth be told it's hard to figure out what's going to click with me, and with my friends. As often as not when I buy something I'm disappointed, one of my buddies really likes it, and he ends up with it.

I rarely kickstart. My only pre-purchase (GMT P500) in 2018 was SpaceCorp, which is a bit of a turd. Here's hoping for better picks this year.

Pretty sure I'm 2 for 2. Both were expansions to games I already owned. Puzzle Strike: Shadows, and Evolution: Flight. I came pretty close to backing Gloomhaven the first time for $80, but didn't pull the trigger. Still don't own it.

I'm a sucker and backed the Terraforming Mars Turmoil expansion. I haven't liked the add-on expansions except for Prelude, and this looks like a kind of expansion I usually don't like, the dreaded "stock market" expansion (it's not a stock market, but it looks like a similar "meta-game" add-on.) Still, I'm a fanboy.

Man the last thing TM needs is something like that expansion. It already runs way too long, and adding in a weird political side board just seems like an awful direction. But I also haven't liked any TM expansion except the maps so what do I know.

I've dithered on TM:T because on the one hand, I totally agree. In my one play, I even found Colonies, which is lighter weight than this, distracting and probably unnecessary. On the other hand, it'd be cheaper to get this just for the dual-layer boards rather than buy a third-party solution, even if I don't like the expansion. I do like markets and such, in their place, but this kind of has the GWT: Rails to the North feel of making a game my wife likes into a game she doesn't like, which is a Big Deal around these parts.

I have backed the Anchrony expansion and will probably keep it, even though that game also doesn't need a whole buncha new stuff and I kind of reflexively gag at getting an even bigger box to replace an already big box; plus my wife put together the Meeple Realty insert for the base game, so even if, as they said, it'll fit in the bigger box, it'll still be a little strange.

And then On Mars has been a bit tempting but IDK. And I took a flyer on the Root stuff, which I have none of. And I was doing so well at staying away from things, and then BAM.

From what I've read the player boards aren't KS exclusive and should be sold separately later. Probably in the Geekstore like the promos.

I did my backerkit for both root expansions and the solo faction AIs, so I've got two kickstarters on the way in pretty hyped for next year.

I’m backing Odyssey of the Dragonlords . It’s an adventure for 5e D&D from the lead designer of Baldurs’s Gate 1&2 and Knights of the Old Republic, which outside of the original Fallout make up my all time favorite video games. Really excited to see these guys still making cool stuff.

If those boards end up as Geekstore exclusives I'm done with Stronghold. Fuck that shit .

I'm backing the new RIFTS for Savage World's RPG set. The original RIFTS RPG is one of my favorite settings paired with one of my least liked rules systems, so I'm really happy with the new pairing.

I'm right with you there. I used to LOOOVE reading all the Palladium sourcebooks, but playing any of their games always felt like a disaster. Like, if you're critiquing the obvious failings of a role-playing system when you're twelve, maybe it needs an overhaul.

Lord, I still make Megadamage jokes...I was totally into Palladium in high school, I think I read the Robotech books cover to cover a hundred times. I also had most of the TMNT books. That was what we played at lunch, more than D&D.

I agree, still think Rifts was a good setting because they just leaned all the way in on every stupid idea.
