What MOVIE(s) have you been....seeing? watching?
I splurged for the 3D (more because of the time it was showing than the gimmick), and I don't think it was worth it. It looked great, but you get used to it after a while and stop noticing. Maybe that's just me.

RobertB wrote: To test it, I watched Michael Mann's Heat. It runs a little long, but it's my favorite cops-and-robbers movie, and one of my favorite movies, period. It's Michael Mann's best. It was the first movie with Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro in the same scene (they were both in Godfather 2, but young Vito Corleone never shares the screen with Michael Corleone).
A friend of mine is hosting a Michael Mannrathon on the last weekend of December, Friday through Sunday, just because.
Friday 12/28:
The Jericho Mile 9:00 AM
The Keep 10:52 AM
Manhunter 12:43 PM
Thief 3:28 PM
L.A. Takedown 5:45 PM
The Last of the Mohicans 7:32 PM
Saturday 12/29:
Collateral 10:00 AM
Blackhat (Theatrical Version) 12:15 PM
Public Enemies 3:13 PM
Miami Vice (Theatrical Version) 5:48 PM
Sunday 12/30:
The Insider 10:00 AM
Ali 12:52 PM
Heat 4:14 PM
Of these movies, I have only seen Manhunter, Blackhat, Miami Vice, and Heat. I don't have time to attend all three days, so I decided I am just going for the Friday lineup. Really just The Keep, Manhunter, and Thief, because I always meant to see The Keep and because many consider Thief one of the best Michael Mann movies. Manhunter is much better than the other Mann movies that I have seen, and Heat was a disappointment given the quality of the talent involved.

If I saw Last of the Mohicans, it didn't leave a lasting impression. I vaguely remember Daniel Day-Lewis in it, but I remember him more clearly from In the Name of the Father from around that time.

I'd flip that, but they're both really good.

Should probably see Deer Hunter while I’m at it
Can’t wait to see Spider-Man next week

Go see it. I want to go again and I want to see it in 3D.

Pass on THE DEER HUNTER. It's a slog. Have you seen PATHS OF GLORY?Black Barney wrote: Finally saw Full Metal Jacket. Awesome.

I am looking forward to INTO THE SPIDERVERSE too. The praise is universal and universal praise is my jam.

I would modify this... watch Deer Hunter and turn it off after the war ends. This way you'll get to see the most iconic scene without having to be bored out of your mind.

Ah, but what about IMAX 3D? Some of my favorite moviegoing experiences have been Imax (not always 3D). Interstellar, that one artsy WWII movie about the English channel, one of the new Star Wars movies. Imax makes OK movies pretty good, and pretty good movies into a religious experience.
